Note the paragraph about the cars being bound for Germany. I bet if that ship would have reached Bremerhaven, it would have picked up BMWs and MB's bound for the US east or west coast.
Imagine 4000 cars sitting at the bottom of the ocean (even if they are Kias and Hyundais.) That is a lot of cars that went to waste.
