That's a distinct possibility.
If you have INPA, you can view live data from the alarm. Just pull up the alarm data page and push the hood sensor button the see if the status changes in INPA.
They do have a tendency to go bad, on the older cars the alarm would go off for no reason as the sensor began to fail.
