I'd assumed they'd gained a safe unlock of the car via intercepting a key. But I'd only assumed. Don't think I read it anywhere. It just seems to be the method.

You might be right, Dave. I "assumed" that they had popped the bonnet and swapped the ews and then unlocked the car and driven it away.
