DIY: Parking Brake Plate Replacement: Without removing hub

Long story short; I messed up the plate that holds the parking brake pads. It is a single piece which is held by 4 bolts behind the wheel hub. The proper way to replace this $11 to pull the hub and the bearing which is a bit ridiculous.

I used metal snips and dremel to get the old one out.

I cut the new plate in half using a metal saw, filed the rough edges and applied a few coats of satin black on either side.

The metal is thick and sturdy enough to support the pads since there are two bolts holding each half.

I also replaced the brake shoes and the springs on both sides while I was there. Finally, I adjusted the parking brake. It works great.
