To each his own. That's what makes the world go round.
But for the record there is nothing out of whack about the A/F ratios when the charge pipe is cracked. Don't know why you think there would be. Your O2 sensors and the DME regulate that.
And plastic bits in the intake are not much of a worry - your engine is made of metal. Stones from the road surface might be a problem tho.
