Pierburg manufactured the N52 pump. I used them on both my N52's. Wouldn't recommend anything but BMW Pierburg or the OEM Pierburg. Pierburg published an analysis of a chinese compatible that had significant design problems. Note this wasn't a "Pierburg" ripoff brand; just a poor quality compatible. Pierburg replacement kit from FCPEuro is the best price I've found from a name house, at US$375 or so.

Anyway: One original BMW Pierburg failed at 60K miles (E60); the other original BMW Pierburg I PM'd at 100K (E91). The 100K was giving signs of failure.

VDO Continental did the N54.

I've read the VDO has a problem with the plastic case cracking/leaking.
