Yep, that sums it up. Before going there, I had no idea how big the Catskills' resorts had been or how hard they had all fallen.

Check out the Bradford Lee Gilbert website sometime. It has a terrific amount of information about Gilbert and his designs. My favorite story was when work on his Tower Building in NYC was finishing up. A lot of people came out on the first windy day, expecting the new skyscraper to blow right over.

Gilbert climbed a series of ladders to the top of the building, suspended a plumb bob from his position, and demonstrated that the top of the building was not deflecting even a fraction of an inch in the wind. He then leased the top floor for his architectural business, saying "If the building ever goes down, then I'll be going with it!"

He was the first architect to think of adapting the horizontal steel structure used in bridges to a vertical equivalent for tall buildings.
