Exhaust system for 2010 BMW E92 320i
Hello to all,
I drive a 2010 BMW E92 320i (VIN - WBAKD52030E492434 and Engine No. - N46B20B). I drive in the city. I am looking to upgrade my exhaust system. I am looking for something that is not too loud (because too loud and aggressive exhaust are not legal in my country) but at the same time has a sweet note and is compatible with my car. My first choice is single exhaust with twin tailpipes to the left. My second choice is twin exhaust with single tailpipes to both left and right like the E92 335i. Can anyone please suggest and provide links to where I can purchase quality exhaust online ? They should also be able to ship it overseas. Would appreciate your help. Regards Dewan. |

I guess the classic choice would be the BMW performance exhaust. It isn't too loud and has a nice sound
If you are looking for more of a sporty and louder sound then sports exhausts should serve you right, for example Eisenmann or REMUS I don't know how the laws are where you live but if you look for exhausts which are legal in countries like Germany you should be fine. |

You can just look up "BMW 320i e92 Eisenmann/REMUS/etc" on YouTube, there are quite a few videos on exhausts.
In general sports exhausts are trying to go for a sportier and louder sound but the legal exhausts try to stay at the same dB level to be legal (in the country I live in at least). If you are looking into a more expensive setup you could look at valved exhausts. I don't know the laws where you live but with a valved exhaust you could switch from an OEM sound to a sporty sound. You could be have the same sound as stock and when you hit the switch when you hit the backroads. |

I looked up the laws in Bangladesh and according to http://bdlaws.minlaw.gov.bd/act-1262/section-47892.html
Translated by Google: (3) Length, width, height, seating arrangement, wheel base, rear over hang, front over hang, side over hang, shape, nature and condition of wheels, brakes and steering of any motor vehicle, notwithstanding the technical specification prescribed by the authority. Gears, horns, safety glasses, signaling lights and reflectors, speed governors, smoke emission systems and carbon emissions, noise control levels or similar shall not be altered. (4) In case of any technical, internal or external modification of the registered motor vehicle, approval shall be obtained from the authority in the prescribed manner. In Germany, we are not allowed to change emissions or noise levels either. The BMW PE, Eisenmann, REMUS, etc are still legal in Germany since they have the same or similar dB level but in your case you should try to ask. The fines in your country are really high... |

Many thanks for your help mate. The fact that you have also consulted our law is more than I can ask for. I would like to bother you with two more questions :-
1. Can you please provide the part number of the BMW Performance Exhaust for E92 320i ? Or link is also fine. 2. What is the decibel of the exhaust in stock form (i mean the factory exhaust provided with the car) ? Would really appreciate your help |

2. I'd wager that you guys get the same exhausts as us in Germany so that'd be 77 dB(A) at around 60% of max RPM, I guess. (N46) I don't have access to a 320i and found 77dB on the internet but I couldn't find the RPM. For my 335i it is 88dB at 4250RPM that is around 60% of redline. If possible you should try to ask someone from your area, maybe a mechanic/tuning shop or whoever does car inspections whether the PE is allowed, I can't give legal advice. But the exhaust should not be significantly louder than OEM so I'd guess it's fine. |

so you got the PE ? used?
Here exhaust are illegal if they dont met OE specs. So most after market options are illegal. However, we can easily get away with valved muffler (pneumatic). Those are dirt cheap, reliable and dont looks out of place. I replace my N52 muffler with this and no regret. (they do dual exist in the same form factor as the 335 one.) Now, by law, it ''fits the OE'', because some E90 version got valved mufflers, and when it's close, I must say, it as quiet if not more quiet than my OEM. Anyway, you made the purchase, think twice about it. Personally I go to car meet, and who's there ? cops ! and what cops look at ? drops and exhausts. and let say I got cut doing noise in traffic, I can close it, and told the cop that wasn't me |

should be a solid option ! It will fit and be OEM day 1. I was proposing the valved, because someone suggested that , and I dont regret. Straight pipe or silent as OEM. Very cool. Those are running around 150$ or less usd thick stainless steel and include the vacuum pump. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005...Cquery_from%3A But, you need to got to a shop to had it custom install so the exhaust tips and bracket. Not a hard job, few welds here and there. Cost me around 350$ usd. For the sound I cant tell, I never heard a 320 irl. |

I can only say what it's like here, the BMW PE is ECE compliant so it does not exceed the volume of the stock muffler. It does change the sound though. If it does turn out to be too loud then you can still add more sound dampening.
I live in Germany and our regulations are strict and since the PE is legal here it should be fine. You can just get a dB meter if you're unsure. I wouldn't worry too much now. Last edited by noidex; 05-25-2024 at 06:59 AM.. |
