2011 335 100K miles transmission issues

Hi all,
I first joined this group looking for my first BMW, purchased a 2011 335 like new 9K miles in 2015.

Fast forward 9 years and 91K miles later, the car has been trouble free except now some transmission issues.

The car never saw a track, used for daily driving, barely in sport mode, only Mod is MHD S1.

SO- oddly enough when im going around a turn and engage throttle i hear strange rubbing like noise from the trans and hesitation. This happened/ started lightly a year or so ago, mostly when going up hill and shifting 1st to 2nd briefly.

Also when i leave work if the car is cold shift between 1-2 is either hard, or it just slips when going to second and eventually engages. A few times the transmition light goes on and goes limp mode. If i pull over, turn the car off and back on its ok.

Im wondering if its seals, solenoids, or both. Kinda dissapointing being the car was never abused and otherwise its a solid car.

The rubbing/squeal noise from 1-2nd around turns at times is strange and i cant figure it out.

No trans leaks- the car is serviced at BMW often, and the only issue is a small oil pan leak, which being its Xdrive its like $2500 to fix so I havent bothered to yet.

Thanks for any help!

Maybe try replacing the filter pan and fluid? Also change out the seals. You can get them all from CTSC.

Did the dealership service differential and transfer case fluids? (especially noisy during turns)

This could happen to the square seal:

I preventatively replaced mine. Still good tho.

The case sleeve with the red (silicone?) seals got damaged by the ATF and leaked. The new seals are black.

Seal set, CTSC is an authorized ZF parts dealer:

Yes, replace the above and the solenoids too. I did this on my E90 and have been no issues over 200k miles.,

Hi,

Do you happen to know if it’s throwing any codes? My old E92 was making a similar noise with hard shifts, eventually going into limp mode that would resolve with restarts. Mechanic said it needed a new transmission. My problem turned out to be the crankshaft position sensor!

Well that’s great news. What a turd to say you needed a transmission and didn’t

Nope no codes ! Once in a while the transmission alarm with the gear comes on and I just turn the car on and off and it’s fine
