e92 335d Road tax irregularity
Hello all,
First of all I am an specially trained mechanical engineer and also a MOT Tester (Class 4) so I have access to emissions testing equipment etc. Around 4 years ago I purchased my e92 335d and for 1 year, the road tax was £230. Price went up every year after that and now I have just received my latest tax reminder which is now £290 for 1 year. What I'm really annoyed about is that when plugged into a diesel emmisions tester (latest DVSA rules and calibration), the car is so clean that the emissions tester doesn't even pick up a reading, so I'm thinking why is the road tax price magically going up. Now this isn't about money, I would gladly be robbed off the UK government every year to drive my car on our roads if there was actually a road surface to drive on. Instead its just what looks like an offroad track full of holes. I mean I have been to several 3rd world countries which when compared to our roads, have surfaces that look like a Formula 1 race track. Now the main reason for this post is this, Looking at the Official BMW 335d spec sheet, and several online websites with specs and reviews etc, the CO2 data states 174 G/KM. Now when I look at my tax reminder and my v5, the DVLA have 200 G/KM. So who is right? I'm I missing something. In the end I realise I may have to just suck it up and pay, but would love to hear what other have to say about this. Thanks |

It's not road tax, it's VED. So doesn't cover roads etc. it's purely down to emmisions. However, you can contact DVLA if you think it is wrong and can prove it to be lower

Don't know about your situation but I'm going to take this opportunity to rant about the state of the fucking roads in Birmingham. Doesn't matter what VED goes to, we pay enough taxes everywhere else and so the road should not look like downtown Fallujah.
I'm not particularly well off, but like you said I'd voluntarily double the taxes I pay if the Government took care of the people, the infrastructure and stopped bombing the shit out of other countries. I feel better now Good luck with getting your case sorted bud. |

Anyone that owns a diesel coupe should have to pay double the VED at the very least
