Question about magnet interference
I plan to mount a rear camera on the back of the headliner in my E91.
My plan is to glue a big magnet behind the headliner and then just clip/attach the rear (dash) camera to it from the bottom of the headliner. The magnet should be strong to hold through the headliner. Question: will such magnet cause any interference with electronics up there? I know the diversity antenna is behind the hatch spoiler. Will magnet mess with it? Or is this no different than mounting a Go Pro and such to the roof in this area? |

That's a great question. I'm going to guess and say "no"...it won't cause an issue. I don't think that a magnet will have any impact on RF, and that's what the diversity antenna is looking for as well as your regular radio antenna, and even the satellite radio antenna (should you have that). The compass (which I would think would be impacted by a big honking magnet) is in the front mirror.
That's my guess. |

Thanks. I'll go for it. I can always remove it if I find that I'm attracting aliens to our planet.

I have visions of all the random missing 10mm sockets being picked up by your E91 as you drive along, will be a spectacular sight!
I have a Garmin Dash Cam 56 which uses a small metal disk mount fitted to the windscreen, the strong magnet is on the dash cam's mount, and you can "network" multiple Garmin Dash Cams, have been wondering about get a Dash Cam mini which has a permanent non magnet mounting, and being small, it's discreet enough if mounted directly to the rear glass. |

I have a Viofo dual cam setup and have already run the wire to the back, so now I just want to hook it up and test out the dual setup. My friend has a Garmin Mini and likes it. I may check those out for my other car. I'll post the mount pictures in my thread once done. |

Oh, those are pretty cool, so forward and occupant facing, which is usually ideal if it's able to see out the back and rear quarters. Have had my Garmin since the beginning of 2020 and it's still in perfect working condition, still very happy with it. |
