I agree 100%, but I'm sure BMW is only doing it because of other brands. IE MB and their AMG package and now Lexus with F accessories on a non-F car.

It's far worse with Audi's S-line, because they actually have the S badge on the exterior.
If you didn't know better, you would have thought the driver was a fanboy and slapped the badge there pretending to be an S4/S5. Many owners actually remove this badge. |

dude- if your car came with M badges from the factory, then BMW deemed your car worthy of carrying and representing said badges. Leave it alone and be happy, or take the badges off.

Exactly its not like you put them on and its not like BMW put M-Package outside the car. Its only interior stuff nothing else, though I wished it came with the M pedals rather than the door sills. |

I think it is fine to have the M badges if you actually have the M-tech Package. Now if you slapped on a 3 in front of that //M then you would be a poser

The appearence package without the internals of an M is kind of cheesy and your ok to feel this way. But its a great car and if really wanted to be low key about the appearence of the car you would have just gone non-Msport.
Its cool in our eyes, but im sure you get egged on to race from time to time. The car looks faster than it really is. No biggie!!! Enjoy! |

WOW really?! I think they understand how to market to the public and make them think they have an M car. And oh yeah, they are smiling all the way to the bank.

= Motorsport, has nothing to do with you're car being an M car. You're got the M Sport package made by BMW Motorsport GmbH. It's not like your car says ///M3 on it's badge.

What are you talking about? When you drive a M-sport car, you do drive a M car. Notice how theres not a numerical digit after the ///M?

I keep reading on this site (and official BMW material) that M-Pkg is cosmetic upgrades only. The suspension should be the same as that of the Sport Pkg.

Remember that BMW Motorsport is a subsidiary of BMW.
The //M pieces on the M Sports are designed or signed off by BMW M and are therefore legit on the car. This includes //M pieces that are bought and installed on the car. BMW M is no different than STi for Subaru, NISMO for Nissan, SVT for Ford and Mazdasport for Mazda, for examples. Putting //M parts and such on your car is not a problem at all. Where you become a poser is, if you put an M3 badge on the back of your BMW 3 series, or as I saw once, an M6 badge on the back of a 318ti. Now that was fairly silly. Don't worry about the //M badges on your M Sport, it designates your car as different from a standard BMW 3 series.

M-Cars vs. M-badged cars
There are several BMW models which BMW Motorsport made changes on, without them becoming full M-Cars e.g. BMW 530i M-line packet or 325i M-line packet etc. Vehicles which have been modified by BMW Motorsport, but are not full M Cars, may feature plain "M" badges with no number, whilst full M Cars will have "M" badges with the model number (e.g. "M3" or "M5"). One exception to this is the M Coupe model, both Z3 and Z4 variants, which only have on the boot a plain "M" badge with no number displayed. These cars are full M Cars. In recent years, M badges have been used to accent non-M factory options. Examples of this include the E46 3 series, in which the performance package option upgraded the car to include M68 style rims which had small M badges below the BMW Roundels. In other instances, M styling without the badges has trickled down into non-M cars as factory options. For example, both the E39 and E60 5 series sedans had optional aerodynamic packages that included strongly influenced M5 styling (for example bumpers). An M aerodynamic package later became a factory option on the E90 which included M door sills, steering wheel, light weight M rims and M style body kit. It is not unusual to see "standard" BMW's with "M" badges or ribbons accenting the design. Simply look at the tachometer, without the M mark and the 300 km/h it's not an M5 E34. The plain ///M Badge simply stands for M-tech upgrades on the car, suspension, brakes, looks or any other mod that has been developed by the ///M guys. So therefore the ///M badge should not under any circumstances be compared to the ///M+number badge (except the Z-cars, as mentioned), as they are not plain M-cars, just M-equipped. In Europe for example, they have had these ///M options on the regular cars since the late 70's. Therefore you will also see many cars that carry these ///M-badges from factory. Exceptions • The 2010 X5 and X6-based M vehicles bore their normal model designations followed by the "M" stripe badge (the X5 M and X6 M). Had the nomenclatures followed tradition, the vehicles would have an MX5 and MX6 model designation, already used by Mazda.[4][5] • The Z3/Z4-based M Roadster and M Coupe bore numberless "M" badges as standard fitment. • The M635csi followed the M535i naming tradition but was a fully fledged M-Car (the M6). • M1 - E26 Supercar Coupe, no relation with the modern E81/E82/E87/E88 1 series • M3 - E30 Coupe/Cabriolet, E36 Coupe/Sedan/Cabriolet, E46 Coupe/Cabriolet • M5 - E28 Sedan, E34 Sedan/Touring, E39 Sedan • M635CSi/M6 - E24 Coupe • M Coupe - E36/8 and E86 Coupe • M Roadster - E36/7 and E85 Roadster |
