Faulty wheel speed sensor after service
Took car in for service @ 21700 on 12th this month, car comes up with an ABS fault/warning @ 22000 on the 26th.
So 300 miles over two weeks before ABS fails, car has been perfect since ownership of coming up year & a half. Service included work on brakes but I think only changing the brake fluid. EDIT: Should mention I only used the car on a few occasions, its not my daily Last edited by breathe3asy; 08-27-2014 at 03:42 PM.. |

Would not put anything past them, I had a big falling out with main dealer, car went in for inspection 2 service a couple of weeks before 3rd birthday, they did the work, when I took it for the MOT it failed on front tyres... Inside fronts were down to the wire... when I checked the service report, front was 5mm back was 6mm... Was not a happy customer when I went in to see them the next day...
Mr Dealer paid for 2 new fronts, I purchased the rears and they did an alignment for free. Plus 50% off next service.... I think because of the price they charge, we have this thing about you get what you pay for, but to be honest most of the tech's could not give a flying about you or your car... clock in - clock out f..k you pay me... Take it back in mate, tell them you not happy... see how it goes ya got nothing to loose.. |

Maybe abs sensor failed or got dirty in those 300 miles you did ? Those things happens and you can't blame dealer for this .

Things like wheel speed sensors hydro units can/do go wrong fact. But to sum up if this helps if you get say a hydro related fault when I call BMW, Mercedes or VAG trade counters for parts all have them nigh on off the shelf. If you get to know these brands you'll gather that in all cases these items go down with alarming regularity, which is the reason why you can call the part in quickly without fuss. Sadly this is not exactly comforting news for the individual faced with a bill but I fear these sort of issues will come back again and again on various posts. |

I have read reports that the common hydro unit fault is caused by the break fluid service. The pressure sensor is fridgle and can fail during the change.
I had the fault on my E87 2 weeks after its break fluid service.

The brake fluid service will be done according to procedure then you get the problem after the works been done, it's a shame it happens but on occasions it does and it's a component issue nit the brake fluid service that causes the problem and comes up totally unannounced. Pity when designed more thought wasn't put into these systems and their longevity as the griefs coming out the wood work for too many customers for my liking at the moment. And of course BMW, Audi, Mercedes etc, aren't interested. |

Never heard of this before. From a technical viewpoint the braking system is pressurised to around 1 bar when doing the fluid, not that much when you consider that hard braking creates up to 200 bar in the pump and lines.

Brake fluid change as you know is so straightforward you can't really do any wrong. Natural reaction for the customer is for the garage to get the call as we were the last people to touch the car, and when doing it as you rightly point out pressure wise the units has not even blinked it's the damn unit that has failed with the ones I've seen stating 'pressure señor internal or similar and nothing whatsoever to do with the fluid change |

That's fair enough then mate,in my place you generally are not told the history unless you ask the advisors who book the car in.I will keep my eye on this for any future ones I diagnose see if there is a pattern developing.Still interested to see what the OP has to say.

Well guys I took a trip to London today and the ABS/DTC warning lights have returned
Another wheel speed sensor? Could be the same one replaced about a month ago. Is anyone able to help a brother out with diagnostics before I take it to BMW? This is where that BMWhat app would come in handy |

Check the rear driveshaft A?BS sensor rings, you can see them visually at the back of the hub carrier....if any part of the ring looks polished or buffed then its basially the ring chorodding/expanding and buffing the sensor and throws up a fault....there is an easy fix if this is the case pm me and i'll explain.
