BMW say 46 psi. Conti maxes out at 40. What to do?

So I'm going on holiday with the car soon and going to be pretty heavy loaded. I thought I'd inflate the tyres to the upper recommendation on the door jamb.

BMW at least for RFTs seem to recommend 2.7 bar front and 3.2 bar rear when laden. That's equivalent to about 39 psi and 46.5 psi respectively. Fine I thought, and went to pump up the rears. I noticed as it was inflating that the absolute max pressure for the tyre as written on the sidewall is 40 psi! They're Conti Sport Contact 5 if that makes any difference. Anyone else run into this prob before and if so, what did you do?

I've gone for 39 psi front (as recommended) and 40 psi rear, some 6.5 psi short of what's recommended for a loaded car. Maybe I'll just not take as much stuff and stick to the 35/39 psi for a normally loaded car....

Are your Conti's RFT's or BMW specific?

Are the tyres extra load tyres?

I've got my new Goodyear's sitting here and they are rated to 50psi.

Looking here the maximum should be 51psi.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....XLV2&tab=Specs

They are listed as extra load tyres.

Does the 5p come in normal load too?

I was reading the safety warning. "Never exceed 40 psi... To seat beads"!

On the other side of th tyre it says maximum inflation pressure 51psi.

Doh!

Thanks for the replies anyways.
