Recomend an inexpensive ISTA/INPA laptop

It's time I get my own set vs relying on friends for theirs. There is a Guy nearby that sells new laptops with all BMW software installed but with the amount of data breaches and hacks I would feel nervous buying something that way.

Thoughts this is his ad he's been selling em seems forever.

I just bought a used lenovo thinkpad for $80 and installed the bimmergeeks software.

It’s slow and the software is outdated but so far I’ve been able to do everything i need flawlessly

+1 for mrjimyjohn. Go on ebay and search laptop then choose windows 7 on the left and you'll be swamped with results of perfect for this task machines under $100, then leverage the knowledge and posts on this forum and get/install all that software for free.

It will run fine on XP to windows 10, it was originally deployed on XP but those computers are pretty aged at this point and were always slow. Windows 7 with at least 4GB of ram is perfect sweet spot IMO, everything runs out of the box. It runs on windows 8.1 and 10 as well in compatibility mode, whatever you can get the best deal on.

You'll be installing pirated software sourced from Russian hackers. Just make sure you don't use any personal account on that computer/partition/OS.

I made the same move with a $100 old Lenovo Thinkpad T420 and it’s working fine so far. Bimmergeeks cable and a preloaded BMW tools HDD drive from fleahbay for under $50. YMMV...
