3 Series 2007 - Central Locking Failed. Desperate for help.

Hello all,

As you would have guessed by now I am really desperate for help. The central locking system failed on the vehicle. The internal un/locking switch (placed next to DTC switch) does not respond.

The failure was sudden. The locks were fine and suddenly there were not!

I had to call rescue team (AA Service) to try to fix the trouble. The AA mechanic tried to replaced fuses. Fuse 57, 52 and 74 were replaced. Nothing happened. The battery was disconnected about 3 times for atleast 5 mins with about 10 mins interval. Nothing has changed.

I really don't want to go to dealership if its the matter of changing fuse or disconnecting battery. But the AA mechanic has said there might be something else wrong.

What can you suggest. I really need to get the locks fixed as the matter is huge bother at this moment.

Thanks in advance.

Check FUSES

My guess it that the wrong fuse was replaced. I had this happen this week and was confused as to which fuse to replace. There was a change in the fuse box configuration for the 4/07 mfg date and on. Regardless it is a 15a fuse so just check them all -- easy with the fuse puller in the glove box.

Hello again,

Thanks for your tip.

I just managed to replace fuse 56 and 57 with 20 amp. But no luck.
Any other suggestions?

The unlock button (next to DTC) locks the driver door when unlocked. But does no good to 3 passenger doors.

I am really worried now. Please help!

Thanks.

Beyond fuses - Go to the dealer or Favorite Indy

I would make sure tha the 15a fuses are in place and not the 20a - if taking to the dealer. I am guessing that you may get blamed on the blown acutators if the 15a protection is now 20a.

.
.
Hope U are still under warranty.

It maybe your actuators if the fuses didn't fix your problem. I had he same problem, doors wouldn't unlock but after replacing the fuses, the drivers side wouldn't unlock. Weird. Look at a few threads on replacing actuators, the part itself is only $70 on tischer but the hard part is the labor, I'm trying to find time to do it sometime this month but others have been able to do it themselves.

thanks for the replies.

i did manage to get the central locking system working by changing fuse 56+57 and fuse33. result!
but then after whole day of perfect running the front passenger lock have started playing up again.

could it be actuator? im not sure.
if the front passenger door is unlocked by a passenger in the seat by pulling the lever twice the door gets unlocked. when locked with the remote or the lock/unlock button on the dash it will lock. its only the unlocking of the particular door which isnt working.
my understanding is if the actuator has given up, the complete locking system for the particular door wont respond. am i right?

please enlightened me with your brilliant views.

thanks for the help!

My drivers side actuator crapped out on me and it would lock but not unlock. Pulling the handle or using your key bypasses the electric motor in the actuator. There is a seperate motor in the actuator unit for locking and unlocking (I took my old one apart after I replaced it). If you are blowing fuses and it has stopped unlocking the answer is to get the actuator replaced. Mine went less than 6 months after the warrenty expired - if you're still under warrenty just take it in.

My locks crapped out today. Just totally random. What happened was when the button on the remote was pressed I heard some sort of vibration in the front passenger door. Then the only lock to work is the drivers door. I can only get in with the actual KEY and it only unlocks by pulling the handle! WTF. Isn't this a MAJOR safety issue? What if there's a crash?

Hey guys, I think this is a really big safety issue. I just had this happen and filed a complaint with NHTSA. BMW needs to fix this permanently and have a manual release for the door locks. If there is a crash people need to be able to open the doors.
