Upon joining the site the "new notifications" number and list of notifications were always correct. However, sometime after that I have found that the notifications are sometimes correct, but other times they are missing, or even clearing themselves.

Example: there will be no number present, but clicking on the flag flashes a few notifications, but they immediately disappear. This means that I have to search my own posts in order to find quoted-posts I need to respond to.

Is anyone else having this issue, or even heard of it?

After some time, notifications will get deleted.
As for the count of notifications, the count should refer to the number of unread notifications. SO if you click on all your notifications, the count will show up as zero, but the notifications will still be in your list (until a period of time, in which they will get auto-deleted)

Is this what you are experiencing, or something else?

I have noticed that notifications just are not necessarily up to date or complete. Doesn't really bother me but figure it's worth adding here.

Something else.

I visit several times daily doing research, so it's not a time issue.

Let me give you a better example.

Imagine I see a 5 on the flag, I click it and only 2 notifications show up, and they are just appreciate notifications, so I search my posts to find I've been quoted 3 times, but had to look for them manually because they never showed up in the list when I clicked on the flag. It's like the system knows they are there, but won't show them to me, as if I've already clicked them (but I haven't).

Also, earlier after I made this post I was quoted and no number or notification showed up at all.

Is this using the app or desktop/web?

I simplified it a little. It’s actually a more complex formula that takes time into account as well as how many times your eyeballs have seen the notification (loading the notifications tab)

On a desktop. And it happened again, just now, after everything had been cleared.

It showed 8 notifications, but only 4 were listed. And before you say the other 4 were previous, I've had it happen this exact way, and searched the missing notifications to find ones I hadn't seen.

I was quoted earlier with this post, yet no notification was given. The system showed 5, it gave me 3 (IIRC), of which this was not one, and I searched my own posts to find it.

But it wasn't always this way, which is the root of my inquiry.

I'm not sure if it's always a double quote like this one, so I'll pay closer attention next time.

Ya let me look into it more. The function as I described was more for the app which refreshes notifications in a different way (push notifications and all). It’s probably a good time for me to revisit how the desktop notifications work since this sounds like a bug to me.

On a side note, do you have the app? If so does that list of 4 notifications looks the same on the app as well?

I do have the app, but never use it because it's hard to use for research purposes. But I can check it next time.

I think at least some of the time the system is confused that I have clicked on all of the notifications already, so the displayed number will be higher than the actual number of new notifications. No problem there. The problem is that there are notifications that it's not showing me at all, like the post I quoted earlier. No notification was ever given, so to find them I'm having to do it manually.

Can you check the site and the app side by side and let me know if they are showing the same notifications in the panel and/or if the counter is different between them

Of course.

When I came here just now on PC it showed 4 notifications, but only 3 in the list. The app shows 4 notifications, but only 1 in the list.

Ok between the time I read your post and appreciated your post I looked up your account on the back-end and its showing 2 notifications (from me) and the counter is at 2 now (with this post should move to 3 and 3 i guess). I’m wondering if it ‘fixed’ itself by running it thru the app. Does the counter seem to showing a correct number for you now? I don't think my app synch's correctly, but it has never bothered me because as I said, I use the site mostly for research, and that's hard to do on an app.

This morning I logged on to my computer to find 4 notifications, but only 2 listed.

I physically went to both notifications to clear them both, making sure nothing else was shown, then opened the app to find the 4 listed, and the same 2 in the list...the 2 I had cleared earlier.

As I said, I'm not so concerned with the number, or even the app, but the omission of notifications for quoted posts and having to manually check my own posts to see what has been quoted.

Whatever this issue is, I'm still having it, but I suppose I'll just learn to live with it.

Hey I still haven’t figured out the exact issue in your case. No doubt something fishy is going on but not sure what.. Since by the time I see your reports and look into your account everything looks synced up again. Can you let me know when everything looks out of sync again and then don’t touch anything notifications wise?

Yeah, I can, but honestly, it's not that big of a deal, I just thought it was strange that it worked perfectly and then didn't.
