Talking How NOT to sell a car on the VXR Forum!

This is the funniest thread I've read in ages.

This guy is trying to sell his Vauxhall VXR (#16) on the VXR Forum...

So what you say, well there is a slight twist to it. The thread has had over 45000 views, and there have been over 400 concurrent users accessing the thread.

I won't spoil it, but the gist of the story is all is not well. Some very amusing detective work goes on by some of the members to establish authenticity of the car/user with some results

It will take a while to read all 31 pages (you can get the gist after the first 5 or so pages), but stick with it

Just goes to show that car community forums work and can show-up some 'allegedly' dodgy characters

The Story Starts here

Note; Due to the vast interest in this thread the VXR Forum is intermittently up and down, but stick with, it's worth the wait

There's no final outcome though is there, or did I miss it? I mean... it sounds dodgy as hell but no result ? I didn't quite get the bit about the 2 digit difference on chassis number.... is something being fiddled with DVLA there?

Good thread, the guy is as guilty as sin in my view. Far too evasive when it comes to answering the questions put to him.

Interesting thread and an interesting site.

I just wondered how you came accross it .. do you own a VX220 or are you interested in buying one?

It's on my options list at the moment if I can find a way to get one.

NFS - That link for the story has been cross posted to many web sites around the world. As there lots of ppl who think this Imran guy is a liar and a cheat.

So DervFan could have found it from virtually anywhere

It was on my shopping list at one time (as a weekend car) before my daughter came along. So I've been a lurker for a while, and occasionally pop back to see what's happening in the VX scene.

They're a good crowd, any questions you have I'm sure they'll help you out

A good little car, equally as sharp as an Elise IMHO

No worries, share the wealth as they say The t'internet is a rich resource for shopping banditos like Imran.

Sorry I really will have to stop visiting the pub on Friday lunchtimes, I'm beginning to sound like Carlos

I was amazed by the ingenuity/resourcefulness of the VX members in tracking down his Ebay account as well

good find buddy!! pretty funny.. have not read everything and havent got as far as the vin number etc

but if its just a crashed car repaired or even a cat c/d write off, you as a seller do not have to disclose that information to a potential buyer!!

then can if they want get an HPI at an time before purchasing.. as long as the car past the test to be fit for road use its legal

Carlos

If you haven't read it - LOOK AWAY NOW!

The guy selling it is called Imran and so his his brother.
His brother owns a bodyshop.
The guy who doesn't own the bodyshop is selling the car.
The bodyshop owner is buying parts on eBay in the middle of the night.
He also posts to the VX20 forum in the middle of the night.
The guy owning the car says he uses the internet from his brothers garage.

There is a picture of an M3 which is CAT C/D with his photo of the VX220. This is on his his own driveway. The same car appears on the forecourt of his brothers garage in another advert spotted by someone else on pistonheads.

There are only 65 of these models built and his in no16.
The car has had a private plate and has been re-registered a donor plate by DVLA.
There is too much circumstantial evidence here to say that he knew nothing of its history.

He is defo a trader - he's trying to avoid the warranty and comebacks by acting as a private seller.

If that guy aint careful he could be in lots of trouble. Who knows he could even end up in rogue traders

This story has gone global with comments from all over the world. Word seems to have got around via motoring wesbites! It has over a quarter of a million views and nearly 1000 responses. Apparrantly the number of people viewing the thread at any one time hardly ever drops below 200 (even in the middle of the night!) and has gone up to 500!

Wouldnt be surprised if it made the national press next week, if the Lawyers allow it! Imran must be the most villified 'trader' going! he deserves all he gets !
