RB's 2.0.....Vargas 2.5??
So a couple weeks ago the new upgraded vargas stg 2s were going crazy, but what happened to everything. No one is talking about it anymore or any problems with these new turbos? Also isnt RB coming out with their own new upgraded turbos?
Or am I just missing something here? Is there another site everyone is on talking about all the news?

honestly I question the reliability of these upgraded stock frame turbos. many people with rbs and vtts have reported with issues and turbos going with barely driving over 10k miles sometimes even less. id save ur money for a single

Yeah, been seeing some mentioning of this "super RB" for quite a while now, but no concrete information yet.
The problem is that only problems get reported on forums on these. VTT's long term reliability is still up in the air at this point. To be honest, their stuff look awesome on paper, but early report hasn't always been great. Perhaps they have gotten better over the months or so. But RB has been around since 2010, so if some of the long term users can chime in that would be great for those who are looking to upgrade the stock frame turbos. Seen quite a few suffered oil seals or bearing problem too in RB's early days. But RB just got a new VSR balancer (high speed balancing is critical to the longitivtiy of these turbos), so I have good confidence in their stuff.

Well this sucks then...I was hoping the rbs were going to be good enough on power and reliability. But I guess I should assume they are running into problems which is why there are no updates on this product.
I do have time though to wait...so guess I will see what pops up in the next couple of weeks or months |

Vargas should be shipping a batch soon or has already shipped, and rob has said he will be silent until testing proves he has positive results which he can offer for sale. Rob won't sell the additional options to the general public until he is happy with what he sees.
As far as the regular RB's, they are fantastic, no problems since installed by a competent BMW tech. In 2 months will have them installed for 3 years. |

I have regular RBs and they perform as advertised I go to the track regularly and the gains were posted here along with vids i went from trapping 116-117 to trapping 123-124 so 6-8 mph gain in the 1/4 is huge two other BMWs were there with me the night I went. One is a good buddy and his car is no joke on stockers running JB4 with flash was trapping 116 he did do a best of 117 2@ 11.8. A BMW 135 lighter then us FBO PTF pro tuned could only do 112-114 a best time and speed of 12.1 @ 115.
You can find info, times, videos, dynos and feedback of RB owners.

I know its probably a long shot since guys upgrading turbos probably drive hard, but does anyone out there have over 75k miles on upgraded rbs?

Ya Rob's new balancing machine is very, very nice. The RB's I just sold were balanced on it, and are built to an appreciably tighter tolerance than OE.
With all of that said, I think anyone planning on pushing 550-600WHP through factory stock frame turbos is in for a rude awakening. I'll be shocked if they last (Rob's or Tony's version) longer than 6 months of serious use. Everyone wants outrageous spool, off-idle 500WTQ, reliability up the wazoo, and efficient backpressure, shaft speeds, and EGTs for under $5K. That's not happenin. Buy a single and do it right - again just my 2C.

I just think that some folks are getting carried away with what can be accomplished with the stock frames. It's nice that we can produce a dyno showing moving a ton of boost up top, but i'm not wild about the long-term prospects of such a setup. There' just no way it's at an efficient level of backpressure, and the manifold is probably taking SERIOUS heat unless you have advance jacked through the roof. But for 500WHP with instant torque, sounds like this is perfect

But over 2:1 is not very efficient IMO. Acceptable? Perhaps. 30 PSI at redline on stock frames? There is no way you're going to get me to believe that is healthy for the motor or turbos.

Nor am I. I know the less back pressure the better, but I don't know what a realistic ratio is (i.e. 0 back pressure would be ideal, but I'm sure is unrealistic in practice) or how far up it can go before becoming an issue.

2:1 is as far as you really want to go unless you can't upgrade your turbo for some reason. If you can't personally I wouldn't go over 2.5:1 on any vehicle. Just no point in the hassle and other problems that crop up. The Stage 2+ look like a good option to me for sub 600whp. If you want more than that go with a single or stage 3's.

I'm actually sending my vtt stage 2s back to Tony, within the following weeks, and they're going to upgrade them to the new+2 specs due to the common, leaky turbo seal and oil issue. I've sent Tony a few emails and he's been very helpful with me on my whole return. Hopefully I the new setup will eliminate the old problem.
