front main seal - need replacing?
Found my drive belt frayed, with debris wrapped in the fan.
Have removed main pulley, and seeking opinions about if my front seal has likely been breeched (and I need to go looking for belt debris in the engine). Pix attached. Appreciate input! (More backstory in this thread, if interested:. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...1#post28854211 |

The seal looks intact. I'd say you got very lucky and have nothing to worry about. But for extra peace of mind, I recommend installing a crank seal protector plate.

Possible for belt to be sucked in without front seal damage?
Would anyone know if it is possible for at least part of the serpentine belt to be sucked into the engine without the front seal to be damaged?
I found some shards in the oil pan, but the front seal does not appear to be leaking. On the other hand, my engine leaks in so many places, maybe it doesn't need to leak out the front. |
