Roof Vinyl on April 18th - Still not sure what to do....

So I am all over the place on what to do with the roof....and I have a date set on April 18th at Shinzo.

If some recall at the meet on April 9th I showed some guys two versions of the cf Vinyl Shinzo uses to vinyl roofs. So I am deciding between the two, or just doing gloss black.

So the three options are:

1. Di Noc Architectural Carbon - This is the stuff we have seen around for the past few years, nice thread like texture to it. But some complain about its matt look, and want something shinier. I have a small sample...and tried to scratch it up...but nothing shows. Really strong stuff.

2. Di Noc Automobile Carbon (?) - So the people at Shinzo told me that once Di Noc realized people were using lots of their architectural film for cars, they decided to come out with a version meant for cars. This version is shinier, the pattern is half the dimension size (I think farbmw explained that the smaller pattern just means its representing double thread carbon fibre? Cant recall the exact explanation). I tried to scratch up a sample I had...and it does not seem as strong as the Architectural Di Noc...but still holds up well.

3. Glossy Black Vinyl is still another option I am considering.

Would love to hear some opinions on what to do. Both cf vinyl options are the same price. Glossy Black vinyl is around $200 cheaper.

Decisions...decisions.....

If you're concerned about durability the gloss black is likely the wrong choice. It is definitely less durable than either of the carbon options. Is matte black an option? Seems like that might split the difference, so to speak.

How much are you gonna pay for your black vinyl roof? Kinda interested depending on the price.

I havent tried out a sample of the gloss black to try and scratch it up and see it durability..one of the things I was going to do when I am back at the shop.

I really dont want the vinyl to get all scratched up and look like crap...would be a waste of money.

Was not thinking of going matt black, felt I needed something shinier to match the sunroof a bit more.

I went black gloss vinyl on the top too from shinzo.

In my opinion, fake CF still looks fake regardless of how it's done. Real CF has a thick epoxy clear coat over it and it gives it some depth. I find the fake stuff hasn't got it perfect yet.

Besides, from far away, gloss black and black cf look roughly the same. I'd save the $200 and use it for something else too.

As far as durability goes, anything gloss will show scratches. Just treat the vinyl as you would with paint and you'll be fine.

PM "Asclepius" - He got the CF roof done at Shinzo. You should check his car out.

I also prefer glossy black, it would look nicer
but then again, CF look would be special because I dont see too many ppl doing it.

I think you can go glossy black and put a protective clear film on top of it and then it won't get so scratched.. you know those films ppl put on the car to protect it from scratches..

show us pictures when done!

Yeah you mean a clear bra....I noticed some people suggested that in other threads I was reading about CF vinyl roofs. I'm going to mention it to Shinzo...but I don't think it will work. Reason being, the CF vinyl has a bump texture to it, its not perfectly smooth like the paint on your car....so whereas the clear bra would go firmly on a flat painted surface, on the cf vinyl there would be bubbles/gaps...it may look messy and not adhere properly. But that's just my theory.

Here is a link for the pic of E92 with CF roof. You have to still see it in person.

Thanks for the photos...it looks too matt for my liking in contrast with the sunroof

But like you said, I need to see it in person to really get a feeling of it.
