I wouldn't hold my breath for this yet.
Unless Austin and NJ will be like Nurburgring and Hockenheim, hosting Grand Prix of United States in alternate years? That's probably why they propose to be 2013. Where Austin to be 2012.

The idea itself isn't bad. There's a large international community on the east coast, and quite a large F1 community in this area. Plus, the draw for the circuit will be having one of the largest tourist centers in the United States just minutes away. |

bernie is playing a numbers game where he builds all these tracks all over the world knowing someone wont pay his fee (instance: korea GP) so he can pick and choose his races every year out of the pool of the ones that will pay him...what a businessman!

By the context of the article, seems to be the announcement on Tuesday will be showing the world the proposal of the NJ Grand Prix that will be submitted to the FOM and upon its approval.

There are several factors in favor of the grand prix being held here over Austin.
1. The track is already "built" 2. Huge population very close by 3. East coast definitely has a large F1 fan base 4. Money may be easier to come by close to NYC I agree that Bernie is probably using the multiple races to pick and choose based on who can pay. We'll see.

...and i just thought of this, once bernie has enough tracks, he will make them bid for a spot on the race calendar! highest bids win! imagine that scheme!

Announcement don't mean anything. Remember once there was an announcement of USF1? Nothing is certain until its on the calender and cars run on it. No again, F1 will NOT run two US Grand Prix(s). If New Jersey can comfortably negotiate a better offer with the CVC group/FOM. We will see Austin to be dropped from the calender in the future.

They should just run the exact same track as the New York one in GT4...

I'm pretty sure Austin is under contract for a certain number of years, If they aren't they are complete morons for not being, and should have expected a shakedown like this.

Weehawken? Why not just run it through the Lincoln tunnel while they're at it?
It's pretty obvious it would have to be on JFK and Port Imperial Blvds. It definitely would have a vew of NYC, but getting there except by ferry will be an absolute nightmare. I think this is just threat to shake down Austin. Liberty State Park would be the ideal place to do it, but someone would have to build the track (in a state park).

10 year contact with Formula 1 10 year contract with MotoGP 5 year contract with V8 Supercars. Austin is set in stone. Track is coming along nicely. |

That's what I figured, assuming the price is set for those 10 years as well. No one would invest that much money without having a contract that would cover their costs and make a good size return on investment.

You guys are acting like 2 GPs in the US is unprecidented.
in the 80s Long Beach and Watkins Glen were in the same calendar. It happens now too. Valencia and Cataluynia are both in Spain... |

Back then there are less interest in hosting F1 races, besides Europe, there's only Brazil, South Africa, Canada, and two USA grand prix. Japanese GP wasn't exist until 1987. Many countries has shown their interest in F1 in recent years. there's more and more countries (especially foreign) are hosting Formula 1. With a calender full of 20 races in a season, and more than 50% are fly-away races. I do not think a country will host two GPs in a season. Valencia was named "European Grand Prix", which supposingly a floating race for other European countries who wanted to host a F1 race, but cannot afford to sign a long term contract which guarantee the huge sum of hosting fee. But since now Valencia can afford the long term contract, so the FOM used the name of European GP for Valencia. It is hard to see two US GP in a season, but its possible if FOM decided to brand one of it as Grand Prix of the Americas (which coincide with the Austin Track name); and the other as United States Grand Prix.

Has anyone seen the proposed track layout. The last thing F1 needs is a street racing filled with 90 degree turns and some straight. And turned out to be another borefest like Valencia. Singapore was marginally interesting due to incidents, but the track itself was boring.
