how did you get them to do it? what did you tell them the issue was? ...i asked my dealer to do it they said they'd ask a tech, the tech called me and tol me they only do that in cases where there's a really bad issue

Initially I went in because after they changed my spark plugs the car started surging and I had a rough idle, so my SA spoke to the tech and they offered it to me as a one time thing. Still didnt fix the surge issue but the car picks up so much smoother now.

I have been to my local BMW in Melbourne 5 times in the last maybe 5 weeks b/c of rough idle issues and misfiring. All issues have been corrected but occasionly at idle the car will hiccup for a quick second within several minutes. After my las visit for this same concern they finally brought up intake valve cleaning.
reason I ask if your local dealers did this is b/c I hope Melbourne BMW will cover this under CPO.

They covered mine under CPO for that same issue, I'm sure they'll cover yours too if they are the ones suggesting it to you. Also let me know if that fixes your issue, as I'm still experiencing the hiccup after the intake cleaning, I don't know what else it could be? Vacuum leak or bad injector?

I have no idea nor does the dealership of the hiccup. I am concerned as well that the valve cleaning may not take care of this issue. Its hard with no misfiring codes or engine lights to pin point the issue. I will keep you posted

I finally got my car back after a week sitting at the dealership. They did cover it under CPO warranty and waived my $50 deductable b/c I complained about it. The car really does idle smoother etc BUT the slight hiccup issue is not 100% solved. With the valve cleaning its not as rough and noticable but I can tell the slight surge is still present. I will just have to live with it.
