Should I get the extended warranty from BMW at $3380
I just purchased a 09 e93 335i convertible 6 speed with nav with 34200 miles. I wanted an extended warranty that Carmax offered at 2000 for up to 100k miles , but called BMW and they sell their platinum certification for $3380..... That\'s a pretty hefty price and was wondering if you guys thought it was worth it?
I plan to just put cobb AP and maybe downpipes and intercooler. What do you guys think? |

I won't comment on whether or not you should purchase the extended warranty, but you should not purchase it at that price. Just like everything else at a dealership, prices are negotiable!

That is true that the warranty prices are negoitable, but if you get any warranty I would go with the BMW, because you can use it at any BMW dealership in the country with no issues. If you don't buy any warranty at all before your original warranty runs out, then you will find out rather quickly what BMW means BRING MONEY WITH YA!!!

i paid 1200 for my exstended warranty for my CPO Z4 through my dealer and they have already put over 10K dollars worth of warranty work in the car so the best 1200 i ever spent lol~~~~
this was the tru BMW warranty not 3rd party so your dealer is full of it! or at least the dealers in your area. mine was originally 2400 and they reduced it to 1200 if i bought the car...... everything is workable |

Get into the details of just what is covered. I put the extended service on my 06, to get to 6/100K, for about $2200. Even if I paid dealer price for what they did, they made cash on me.
I think I got an oil change and new brakes. They wouldn't do things like replace my radio screen that doesn't glow any more, or fix my driver seat that is totally worn. |

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

Thats almost double the price for the BMW one compared to the Carmax one which is very comprehensive and covers all those electronic gizmos incl. the radio, nav, etc. I don't think it's worth it just to get a BMW one. (FYI I used to work at Carmax and am pretty familiar with the MaxCare plans, they can easily pay for themselves over the long haul)

My dealer wanted to sell for 2500...3380 is a lot. Of course I didn't get it, and I have not needed any major fixing that requires a warranty. That was 3 yrs ago...

Do these extended warranties cover cars with mods, or do you lose coverage if the car is modded?

That's a lot, even for platinum. That said, if it's truly the best price you can find, I would still take it over Carmax. I'm not sure what options you have, but if you have nav and the premium sound (HK), I think platinum is worth it versus the gold.
