New S Class MBUX System
This will be new standard that nobody will match anytime soon.
Very impressive!

Very impressive indeed, although of course I am not a fan of shifting physical controls into the screen. I feel like this is a big risk to take especially for S-Class owners, but I guess we will see how it plays off especially since it will also be making its way to the W206 C-Class. The biggest interest I have in the system is the HUD since it has a huge opening which I assume has to do with the 3D AR graphics.
Found a whole bunch of photos and videos here -> https://www.motor1.com/news/432843/2...erior-preview/ |

Why does my car infotainment screen need a fingerprint sensor?
I sound like a scrooge, but I really hate the direction the industry is headed. I just want cars to be cars, not computers disguised as transportation. I'd never use any of this crap. Don't even use the tech that's in my cars now. In place of a screen, give me an area to mount my phone against the dash that charges and connects my phone to my car's speakers via Bluetooth or some other method, and I'd be thrilled.

The current W222 S-Class really is a looker inside and out, however I think, at least based on leaks, the W223 will be too minimalist. I know its not fair to compare leaked photos with official press photos, but I think it gives us enough of a clue that this interior will have a lot less detail and design. While some may find Mercs to typically be too flashy, I think its more befitting of a $100k+ flagship.

maybe its not that good to write on a BMW forum but.. Merc' is way much better than BMW in last 2-3 years.. before that BMW had an advantage on chassis and engine performance.. but not anymore and now Merc' designs are much much better as well.. hear us BMW!!!

Additionally, I know many people like to use their phones mounted for GPS, but I don't. I find the maps used by Mercedes and BMW (Here maps) to be really good. Especially with the latest enhancements where it learns the overrides you make to routes and takes that into account in future guidance automatically. I've gotten dubious or worse directions from Google Maps, Waze, and Apple Maps. Obviously, YMMV, but choice is good and with AA and CarPlay standard we're not losing anything by not having a dash mount. I agree with the finger print sensor thing, but maybe it is added as an alternative to your key. Where instead of needing to carrying a key or your phone you can use your fingerprint and go from there. If that's the case I can see the value of that. |

When I saw the E43 win a car and driver test I laughed it off because the Mercs I knew (outside of AMG) were retiree cars. But when my 540 was totaled I thought I would at least try out the E53 (the replacement for the E43) to see if they were right and I was shocked. They had been doing their homework on BMW and perfected the sport/luxury balance for a mid-sized sedan that the last two 5ers just couldn't capture. I leased a CLS 53 and have loved it for over a year and half now, even got the wife into a GLC since she wanted a nice and comfy SUV. I still do love BMW and do find some of their products better than the equivalent Merc (2er, X5/6/7, Z4, etc.) but the competition has caught up, its no longer the early 2000's where BMW was known for sport and Mercedes for luxury, the two are now closer than ever. |

Mercedes has done a really good job this last decade improving handling of their cars and making their products more visually attractive to younger buyers. I will say that while their current interiors look more pleasing to the eye than BMW and Audi there are lots of hidden cheap plastic when you look closer and start touching things and creaks/rattles seem to be a common issue.

Of the companies making interiors with a screen dominating the center stack, I personally think Volvo is doing it the best. While I still like my physical buttons, here at least in the Polestar 2 it visually looks very nice and minimalist while still having little design details here and there to make it look premium.

The augmented HUD is pretty cool. The rest looks like a bunch of stuff I could not care less about while driving. I hate the digital tach/speedometers in new cars. Cars that have a mix of analog/digital/actual buttons like the Macan are best IMO.

Definitely cool features. But the name for it sounds like some virtual currency you need to buy to unlock some premium DLC options in your car

I'm fine with the digitizing of seldom used controls but IMO all vehicles should come with buttons for climate control and audio volume as a minimum. Cars cost enough these days that automakers shouldn't be using touch screens as a cost saver eliminating commonly used buttons/dials. What do people do in some of these vehicles if they are travelling and the touch screen goes wonky as you lose the ability to adjust climate?

The W222's interior design has so much exuberance and timeless elegance. As others have expressed, the W223 just looks like a Tesla Model 3 on steroids.
My theory is that Mercedes knows this segment is shrinking, so they want to broaden their customer base by going after the techie Tesla crowd. It's a sink or swim world for this segment.
