Keyless entry article on MSN

Of course, to summarize, mentally challenged people shouldn't opt for keyless entry. |

Life is like a Box of chocolates...
Don't ever let anybody tell you they're better than you, Forrest. If God intended everybody to be the same, he'd have given us all braces on our legs....

So keyless entry is bad because the writer is stupid? Love it. Personnally, I've had keyless entry for three years and never had a single issue, either with the technology or being stupid. I also think the writer should take a good look at automatic transmissions. I was dropping my wife off at the airport and my truck got rammed from behind. Looking back I saw the bimbo driver standing beside her van. She had jumped out without putting the damn thing in park so I think we should encourage everyone to get manuals to prevent the opportunity for this kind of stupidity. Of course you then have the issue of someone rolling back when starting on a hill. Maybe we really need a tracking system for stupid people. Once you get enough stupid points they take away your license.

what an arrogant writer with such typical American attitude:
if you make a mistake, blame someone/something else. next thing you know, someone sues a car company for making keyless entry systems |

"Especially in major cities—or anywhere people use valet and attended parking—keyless systems have created an unforeseen headache. Drivers hand over the running car, take the valet ticket and walk away, with the remote key still in their pocket. The second the valet shuts off the engine, the car becomes an immovable obstacle. That can force workers to put cars up on rolling jacks to move them by hand.
In New York and L.A., fed-up garages are charging walkaway owners an extra $50 or even $100 when they return, sheepishly holding the keys. It's happened to me more than once. And if you think valets are surly now, wait 'til you show up after they've been pushing your dead car around the lot. " valets: check for the key before you drive it away. "Many owners leave their keyless fob in the car while they're driving, usually in a cupholder (side beef: with no handy place to put the fob, it wastes a perfectly good cup *******. As you'd expect, some drivers accidentally leave the fob inside the car, where anyone could use them to steal their ride. The cars flash a message to not forget the key, but they also chirp when the door's ajar, so it's pretty easy to ignore. " the door does not lock when your key is inside... unless of course you like to leave your car doors wide open "It gets worse. With today's cars running so quietly, some owners pull up, get distracted and forget to push the engine-off button. They walk away from their still-running car. Owners have reported returning and finding their car had idled until it ran out of gas. " so if you forget to turn off your engine you blame the key? Or how about blaming the engine for being too quiet? |

The same kind of stupid articles have been written about iDrive by aging writers who spend only 30 minutes in the car and blame it as an intolerable interface.
The worst of the matter is that this incorrect iDrive notion is spreading like gunpowder and now every car magazine, without exception, lists iDrive as a negative. What a bunch of fools!!! |

This is somewhat reminiscent of the core of the Audi 'sudden acceleration' scare which 60 Minutes helped cook up. Audi saw some dark days because of that.
Luckily letting your car idle out of gas isn't quite as dangerous as running people over and smashing into other cars at full throttle ... so at worst we'll only have to hear Andy Rooney go on for two minutes about the dangers of keyless entry. |

My 330i doesn't have CA, but the wife's Highlander has the equivalent... Assuming CA is similar, this guy has to be a complete tool to do all of the things mentioned in this article. As some have pointed out - the car won't lock with the key inside of it, and leaving it running can hardly be blamed on anything but the idiot getting out of the driver's side...
But even the valet argument - her Highlander starts beeping (on the outside) the minute you walk away from it while it is running... Does CA do the same? He also mentions thieves and not starting... what am I missing there? What do these systems have to do with either of those things? |
