Saw this on M5Board and had to pass it along. It's an extremely simplified self-installer with some minor instructions. Now you can get the software (BMW Coding tool, NCS Expert, INPA, etc) up and running extremely easily even on a Windows 10 machine compatible with X64!
The ONLY thing that users may need to do is reconfigure their COM port to be COM1 after the install, but a Readme file pops up after the install with simple instructions. I take no credit for composing the package, just sharing it as I know this has been rather elusive on Windows 10 based OS. The first zip is the executable package. Install away: Zippyshare.com - EasyBMWTools.zip The next is the fix to get BMW Coding Tool working, drop the file MSCOMCTL.OCX in the windows\system32 folder (and SySWOW64 if you're on 64bit Windows 10, then reboot): http://www34.zippyshare.com/v/rNEwRZz5/file.html In some cases you may have to register it: 1. Click Start, type cmd. 2. Right-click the cmd icon, and then click Run as Administrator. 3. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: Regsvr32 /s c:\windows\system32\mscomctl.ocx Do the same for SYSwow64 instead of system32. Replace desktop shortcut for BMW Coding tool with a new shortcut from the BMW Coding Tool directory on C:\ and it will work fine. Enjoy! Expert mode profiles for NCS: http://www15.zippyshare.com/v/ssURKhZi/file.html Simply paste the contents of the zip (PFL files) into NCS Expert\PFL\ |

Can't seem to find the thread anywhere on m5board (not very easy to search, anyhow) - any possibility you can link to it in case there are any issues that come up that may be referenced there?

If this doesn't work out, I'm gonna do some more researching into getting XP to work natively on my MBP and go that route, instead of a VM.

I had VM running Windows 7 and eventually got tired of periodic slow downs using it on my MBP. Caved in and bought a small 10" dedicated Acer laptop with Windows 10, SSD, more RAM and it's been fantastic!

Oh, wow okay. For whatever reason in my mind it was running Windows XP in a VM on Win10 - no clue how that happened but thanks for clarifying!

I think the software originated here. Installer seemed pretty slick, but I'm waiting for my cable to arrive so can't comment on the functionality yet.

In my post above yours I mentioned that I tested this on a clean install of Windows XP SP3 on a virtual machine on my MacBook Pro and it worked as it should, and OP has it running on Windows 10.
If you have any issues you can post here and I'll try to help you out ![]() |

Strangely, the USB drivers failed to install for me. I will still go check if it connects to my car however.

The OP stated the following:
drop the file MSCOMCTL.OCX in the windows\system32 folder (and SySWOW64 if you're on 64bit Windows 10 Does the OP mean to copy that file in BOTH system32 and also SySWOW64? I am on windows 10 and I have both folders... Or does OP mean to ONLY drop it in SySWOW64 if on windows 10?

I actually had the driver error too, but don't worry about it. It all worked for me regardless.
As for MSCOMCTL, drop it in both as clearly stated in the post: Quote:
