E90 Clutch Engagement ?

Newbie...coming from E46M3 6MT....just trying to get used to the clutch engagement.

Not quite used to this E90 xi yet....letting the clutch out and matching the rpm's isn't as easy as it was with the M3. Seems like I can't get the rpm's up as easy, or I need to give a lot more throttle to have all go smoothly.

I have a feeling I will be getting under there and removing the CDV and see if that improves the feeling.

I don't think anything is mechanically wrong with the E90 I bought, however I guess it's just the transition and only after 4 days I have a ways to go.

Oh, I can't stop driving this machine. It snowed today, not enough to excite my awd !

if you drove around the M3 in sport mode, you'll notice an even bigger lag in the 335.

my downshifts have slowed down a decent amount waiting for the engine to rev up. it does require more throttle than the M3.

however, i drove my M3 all the time not in sport mode. the difference isn't that big of an issue to me.

I actually came from a 2007 335 coupe to a 2011 335 sedan. I noticed a difference in the clutch. It feels like it grabs alot quicker making it easier to stall. Weird

Yep. This is a must-do mod. It is pretty simple and makes a world of difference.

I'm assuming the Burger Motorsports CDV part? On my M3, I just had to remove the part?

Most people replace the CDV with a gutted one. So the part is still there, but it's internals are gone.

I just removed my instead of using the gutted one.

If you are not concerned about the potential of warranty issue when you bring your car in for tranny problem, or if you are able to put back the CDV before you take your car in for a warranty claim for a tranny issues, there is no reason why you couldn't just remove it.

BTW I still have the gutted one (brand new) from Zeckhausen racing. If you really want to use a gutted one, PM me.

yes, 335 is slower to respond (its turbocharged); it def takes some throttle to rev match when downshifting though...might be because of how the electronic throttle is programmed.

I find engagement helps if you feather the clutch a bit, CDV delete might help. Plus XI power delivery is not as smooth as RWD.

So I CAN remove the CV without replacing the valve itself? Thats how I did it on my M3.

Buy one from a dealer, they are cheap. knock out the guts and swap them. I beleive it is easier than just removing it completely.

I had the same feeling when I first got my car. I could barely feather the clutch without any gas to get the car moving. Now, after 40k miles, it's where I expected it to be with other cars. It's just that the clutch bites too hard when new.

This DIY write up is very helpful if you haven't run across it. The write up uses a modded valve, but it is really not needed. Just connect the hose straight back on to the clutch line. One could argue it's better than using a replacement valve.

No....the CDV was done around 100K and I put another 25K before I sold her with NO problems with clutch...just felt a lot better. The guy that bought the M3 from me notice a difference and ended up doing the same mod to his other M3....LOL.
