i dont really think selling the white piece for half is fair, 10 bucks maybe 15 max, were talking about having to install the one unit and having to take apart the unit, mod it, and install it

I use a plastic grib and cut it to the shape/length of the "white piece"...then just add a flat piece on top of it
Done

This is awesome. Yeah, it be very nice if those who already bought the german switch to give away their old (unused) US switch so we can use the extension. So bmw is so sneaky, you cannot use the fog button because of those 4 tabs that held it securely in place. Once you cut off the 4 tabs, then that button can be pushed but then you need the white extension. Nice work in investigation and doing the fog dyi. Very clear instruction too btw. ska, how do you plan on getting the nice white icon of the light bulb for fog light switch (currently, it is just a blank button with no icon)?

This may be a dumb question, but here goes. When you cut the clips that hold the dummy rear fog light button, what keeps the switch from popping off when you modify it? I guess the same question could be asked about the front fog light button.

actually, i think that is a very good question. I have not open her up so I dont know what is keeping the button from falling but I know those 4 clips prevent the button from being pushed in.

Here's another potentially dumb question. When one of the clips that hold a dash panel on my Jetta broke, I went to the dealer and he was able to order that little metal clip, it was like $2.00. I would think that if we broke one of our fog light buttons, we wouldn't need to replace the entire switch but just the broken button. It may take awhile to order the part, but it would take the guess work out of trying to fabricate it from scratch. What do you guys think?

There is a white piece (different white piece from the one that is missing) attached to the back of the button. When you open up the whole switch unit you will see what I mean. There are two little clips that clip into a small track on that white piece on the back of the button allowing it to move in and out but not fall out at the same time.
