335i vs 535d
Hi guys,
Thinking of MAYBE trying the 335i either as sedan or coupe. I currently own a "loaded" 535d LCI, that has pretty much everything that one could hope for in a car. Not going to go into the details on what piqued my interest in the 335i gasoline, but I've owned a 540i before and can appreciate the gas engine finesse in certain things . What do you think, do I stand to gain anything? There are options, even the X version. I do love active steering a LOT in the 535d, so with an X 335i I would obviously lose that. Tero |

After writing the saga I realized it was 335i vs. 535d, I'll still leave the post as it is "kinda" relevant.
HMMMM, I feel a war a brewin' I just went through this a year ago and ended up with a 335d. I LOVE her, but I do get a little jealous of my buddies exhaust note when we are on the motorways. Conversely they get jealous of me when we are ripping it up and they have to fuel up @ 290 miles and I still have close to 140-150 mile range left in the tank. I love the look no their faces when they are trying to shake me and I stay 1 car length behind them (for safety) That look becomes priceless when we start to climb a mountain and I effortlessly slide around and past while they down shift to keep pace. dunno bud, if you can live without MT, you won’t regret the "d" (I don't) But I DO miss the sound of a high revving engine. After playing in the hills with my buddies who drive everything from 135's to 335is I can say for me (family man) it meets/exceeds my needs. I'm very competitive when the guys wanna run. (I’m NEVER last to the café) I can comfortably haul my family for long road trips in style. I have great driving range that isn’t contingent on me driving like a grandma. (last road trip to Huelva: 30mpg and we were having fun) I can put 2 large suitcase and two small ones in the boot. If I want more punch all I gotta do is add a J-tune and I’ve got my poor/smart man’s M3 Just my $.02, prob not what you were looking for though

As long as we're throwing out options that the OP never asked for....
Why not an Audi?

A loaded LCI 535d? Against a 335i? Only one winner - the 'd and you won't regret it!! Neither will your wallet.

Only thing wrong with the Panamera is it isnt available with the Porsche Cayenne Diesel 3.0 T with 405 lb-ft of torque. Oh and here is an article comparing the X5 30d (which uses basically the same engine in the 335d)to the Cayenne Diesel. Since BMW can put their SUV diesel engine in their sports sedan, what excuse does Porsche have?
Edit: Oops forgot the link:http://www.insideline.com/porsche/ca...rst-drive.html

In an SUV, particularly one that is meant for off-road use (even though 99.9% of soccer moms will never drive it as such), torque is extremely important. But hey-- some people like the brand, and need an SUV, so Porsche is cashing in on that market.
