I don't think you can fit hids in the E90 LCI halogen housings for the angel eyes.
Not sure about the relays. |

I've read people having flickering because of power issues but I didn't go into details. Since the original halogen bulbs are 35 watts, I don't think hooking up a 35watt HID kit to them would cause any power issues. Is that logical? Last edited by turbocomppro; 10-11-2011 at 01:01 PM.. There won't be if you buy the right ballasts.
Keep in mind, you will be illegally modifying your headlights and can be ticketed, impounded, etc. |

I dont think relays are the concern. I would be more concerned with tripping errors on the dashboard. Generic HID kits will not work on this car, especially in the angel eye areas.

I don't see how changing the AE bulbs would be illegal. I'll still have the original halogen main beam bulbs, I'm not changing those.
Besides, I'm in China. You don't get tickets here for lights. Hehehe |

Yea also the angel eyes on my car run under 12v. Like around 7.7v or something like that. Not sure how many ballast will run on 7v. You'll need to wire it directly to a switched source in the car or wire it directly to the battery with a bosch relay triggered by a switched source.

If you know how to code then you wont have issues with the HID kits. If you know how to properly code your car, then you can run the hid kits plug and play.

As for the AE running 7.7v, does that apply to all cars? I have the pretty much base model with halogen lights. I've got the Lux 5.1 in there now and don't those run at 12v? I don't believe my car has any special dimming features. Heck, it doesn't even have day time running lights. I've never noticed any dimming of the AE when I have the original bulbs in there as well. I've read people doing a hard wire DRL AE mod from the cig lighter socket. That's gotta be running 12v. But I'll run a meter and double check... If it must be relayed, then no big. Just a few more extra wires. |

I found that the original bulbs are 12v 10 watts. I've never seen mine changed brightness. I really don't think mine has that feature at all. But if for whatever reason it does, I will surely code it to run at "high" all the time.
But that raises another question now. The bulbs are only 10watts. The hid is 35 watts. Will my wires fry if I hook it up directly? |

As for the angel eyes. Mine don't dim. They just run at 7.xx volts. That is their normal operating voltage. I know some dim when the headlights come on, but I think has to do with PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) and not voltage changes.....not sure |

Here's a sneek preview of what I'm about to do... it's pretty much ready to go in. Just need to find some time to get it done. Prob this weekend. Will post a full report in the DIY once finished.
Thanks all for the reply. Really appreciated. "Modified stock Angel Eye reflector with a H8 5000K HID bulb." |
