Insurance and non run flats
Spoke to Camskill today about ditching the run flats, they said my insurers should be informed and will no doubt put my premium up.
Does anyone have any experience of this? Thanks |

This has been discussed numerous times, Personally, I don't see the reason to inform them. They don't need to be notified of a change of tyre as long as its the proper spec. BMW sell cars both with and without run-flats. Do you tell them if you change from Bridgstone to Michelin?

My insurers were happy for me to make the change. It think it is well to advise them if you are going to change.
I fail to understand though with the moron at Camskill continues to alarm people unecessarily with his attitude. |

Afraid quite a few insurance companies are still difficult when it comes to runflat or winter tyres. |

No, just ignorance.
Like the kwik fit fitters etc banging on about 'special wheels that can only take RFTs' and 'special pressure sensors in the valves' etc. Winters have been sorted by the inurance ombudsman, no notification required unless you are fitting a different size or type of wheel. Same logically for RFTs, they are just a 'type' of tyre. As long as you stick with OE size, load, speed then you are compliant. |

I had the same question when I replaced mine - I did contact the insurers (Aviva at the time, but I've switched twice since then) and they didn't change the premium. Also, I don't declare it when filling in the form for new insurance because it isn't a "modification"
