If its so significant, why didn't you stay with your Stage 3 Dinan?

There's much more to S3 than .5 PSI - it's between 14.5 and 15 PSI at the top, which is Dinan's recommended "safe" limit for their warranty purposes. At that point, you need the FMIC and OC to take advantage of the boost level and maps and keep the IAT and oil temps under control. It's the right approach instead of gambling with your $15K engine. After all, his stuff is the only aftermarket engine/driveline/chassis tuning you can buy at a dealership and keep your warranty (new or CPO). 20+ years of building engines for professional racing teams probably has a lot to do with that. I bought my FFE used (1 month old - original owner wanted a full catback setup) and my CAI as on clearance at a dealer in Houston, both for about half-price. They make a big difference out on the road. Besides, dyno numbers are just that - numbers. It's how it feels out on the road that matters. I shift at 6100 as Dinan recommends; it definitely ain't no slouch like some of the trolls here think. But again, it's what WE think that's important. Don't do the badge thing...it's not necessary. It's almost as silly as listing all your "mods" in your signature.

Btw, does anyone have a datalog of Dinan stage 3? I've gotten my hands on a couple stage 2s but 3 isn't a very common tune.

Dinan was a great option for those who wanted to keep their warranty, but now that BMW no longer backs Dinan, there isn't any reason to go with them. Their products aren't any better than anything else on the market, just more expensive.

Once again, this post was about the difference between Dinan S2 and S3 - so let's cut the crap and stop knocking a vendor who's been tuning BMWs for over 20 years. If you don't like Dinan or can't afford it - fine, just keep your comments to yourself.

Actually, I can get one for you from my car. I've got some logging software from Bimmersoft (bmwlogger.exe) and I'll hook up the laptop and grab a log this weekend. Anything in particular you're interested in seeing? This product captures a lot of info from the OBD-II port and can create graphs as well as raw numbers.

I would hardly call tuners like Cobb or ESS "fast-and-furious" cheap stuff. If memory serves me right, Dinan has created some pretty "fast-and-furious" products themselves. I never said that Dinan makes poor products. This is a public forum and people are going to share their opinions. If you don't like it, go kick rocks. |

It's funny how the few Dinan Kool Aid drinkers so vehemently defend (see overly defensive) Dinan products almost to the point of looking ridiculous, especially when they try to knock the competition and claim "safety issues" or lack of quality. It's nice to see that BuraQ has gotten away from the Cult and realized that others do software much better and it's still safe.
BMS, Vishnu and COBB have each put more R&D into their software than Dinan ever will. N54 motors are NOT blowing up or breaking anything with thousands of users pushing the envelope with these three brands. Safety is NOT an issue if you stay within the parameters that the tuner sets. 95% of COBB, BMS or Vishnu useers are never going to have an issue because they do not go outside of the paramters of the software. If you want to talk hardware, there are plenty of brands that are as good or better than Dinan parts for much less money. FMIC? The Helix is a comparable yet better unit for HALF the price. Helix builds quality stuff. That's ONE example....plenty more can be made. yes this was about S2 to S3 differences, but when good venders are knocked just to justify Dinan stuff it turns into something else.

AR makes a very nice oil cooler and I believe it's cheaper than $1,500

ER is a little cheaper at just over $700 and would be the way I'd go if budget constraints were an issue. ETS same for the FMIC.
You will really enjoy s2 coming from s1 but if you can...well you know what I'm going to say(), especially if you are cost saving on the hardware and only have to pay the diff in flash pricing, like others here have with great success. |

sorry, meant ER.
Have you ever thought of buying used mods off this forum? I've done it and it worked fine for me.
