Anyone done this? In some ways it seems easier than a coupe, where its in two pieces. On the other hand, there are the hinge covers and no fine lines to follow (front windshield to back window).
I was quoted 500 by a local shop which is absurd since I can get a fat roll from bmwshadowline for 60. I'm thinking of doing the roof and hinge covers in black myself. I would use the hinge line as the boundary of the vinyl. I want there to be some paint above the doors windows like a coupe. Anyone have an opinion or pictures? |

Ive thought about it and researched it before also. I found that it actually looks somewhat weird at some angles...
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=404547 I remember this thread someone posted a picture but I guess they took it off |

I guess in that thread the whole top was wrapped making it look like a soft top. That's not the way I would do it. Here is another pic I found of the above car. He only did the roof "coupe style".

With the constant moving and pieces closing against one another I would imagine it would only be a matter of time before the edges would start to look ratty. I have BSM but I imagine it would be cool to attempt on a color car.

I most certainly will share if I do! The vinyl I can get for like 60 bucks from BMWshadowline.com so if I fail or it fails over time I'll be ok for a fun cheap project.
The only thing that concerns me is there is no "clean line" to follow. The hinge line doesn't run all the way to the windshield or rear window, so there will be some areas that I need to take an exacto knife to directly on paint which would be scary. We shall see |

The trick is to score the vinyl... dont cut it. Using a fresh blade is an absolute must.

I read that it's very important to not press down too hard with the xacto and you should be fine. If you get it done be sure to post pics! |

Awesome, thanks for the advice. I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and order the vinyl. I already wrapped the window trim and grill in matte black last year so at least I have a little experience... my friend just gave me sh*t for being the only female he knows that cares so much about how their car looks haha.
Glossy would look better right? As to kinda look like a glass top?

And yes, definitely go gloss. It would look pretty awesome I think, and fool a lot of people into thinking it's a coupe at a quick glance. |

500 is crazy...shop near me wants only 250 and I didn't even bring my car in. Bought 4x5 vinyl for $45 and did myself too. Plus, it's easy and fun to do it yourself.
