Software Update: Do you still have to press buttons everytime for track display?
I was reading a post on this board recently which indicated that, with NAV, you have to press two buttons every time you start the to switch from a display of MP3 track numbers to display of the track name.
Has this been resolved with software updates, so that every time you start the car the track names show by default? |

Im confused, I dont press anything, but I only see the name of the track currently playing. The rest are in MS-DOS format.

I had read somewhere that a board member had to press a button twice to switch from a default of something like "Track 1" to something like "Eagles - Hotel California", but it sounds like you don't have that problem.
Just to clarify something else you mentioned - when you said that the files not playing are in MS-DOS format, the file names aren't shortened to just 8 characters, right? |

MS DOS format is just that, it cuts it to 8 characters and puts little ~ in them. They are essentially un-readable. Im hoping 20.0 fixes this....

Just make sure you use ISO level 2 format when burning the CD and you'll have 31 characters instead of 8.
For instance, in Nero, in the ISO tab make sure you select "Max. of 31 chars (ISO Level 2)" in "File name length". In the same tab, if you uncheck the "Joliet" checkbox you'll see how the names will look like in the car. |

You can see it if you access the hidden menus in iDrive or on the console computer.

I didn't know that it could show Track Name. To this day all i see is Track number. How can I change it to display Track name. I also noticed that the radio only show channels by numbers, is there any way to see the station name as well? (WTOP, NPR, etc.)

To show track name, select the song thats playing, push the knob down, scroll to the right to the last option. It should be Details with an empty check box next to it. Push the knob down to enable this option.

Anyone know how to do this for non-iDrive e90s?

Jav has it exactly right. The full filename vs the condensed ms-dos filename is based on the settings when burning the disc.
Initially, I had a similar problem. But after changing the settings on Nero, I get the full filename on the screen. I have my mp3 files with the following format: "Artist" - "Song Title".mp3 When I look on the iDrive screen, it shows the full mp3 filename, but it will show the ID3 tag for the song that it currently playing (I have the "details" box checked). I have iDrive and CIP20 with the mp3 update.
