light rattle/rumble noise from engine
Hi guys. Latley ive been hearing a very light rattle or rumble noise coming from my engine. Its been going on for a while and hasnt affected anything but just annoying me. It only comes sometimes when im on idle. I can get it to start by pushing the windows up or down. Sounds like thers something rattling. Any ideas what it could be?

It could be pulley bearings that are worn?
Does it only rattle at idle? |

pushing windows up and down will put pressure on alternator if battery is low. If your harmonic balancer or any of the other pulley bearings (as mentioned above) is on its way out it might get a rattle as it starts to go, could also be an issue with the alternator.
When was your battery last replaced ? |

If they feel wobbly like they've got slack/play, or if they feel stiff and gritty, then they should be replaced. |

If it's a rattle on light acceleration between 2000-3000 it may be the waste gate rattle. Mine rattles at about 2500 rpm on light acceleration. Do you have a JB4 installed? |

I do have a report from my last vehicle service - "Whirring noise noted from engine, especially at low rpm, possible noisy drive belt pulley, required investigation to accurately diagnose" Thanks. |

Oh, on a 325 the pulleys should be easy - there is less stuff to remove and more room to move about in there.

i just replaced my belt tensioner and sound went a way for a day but came back, picking up the car today, will report back.
Im thinking either to alternator or valve lifters. is it like a metallic ticking noise coming from the front of the engine?

it's very rapidly but only last for about 2-3 sec, usually when I accelerate. Please do let me know the result. Thanks a lot. for valve lifters, I thought if the car is well warmed up, and the engine oil is up to temperature, there shouldn't be any sound from the lifters? |

those vids on the internet are recorded when idle.....the rapidly metal sound that I heard is when I accelerate....so, I don't know... by the way, that rapidly metallic sound only lasts for about 2-3 sec....and only happens when I press the gas pedal to accelerate.... for constant speed with my foot on the pedal, there is no such sound. |
