I got this update today, and my NAV is faster and more responsive. I now notice there is no lag between menus and selection.
I also got a new system too. |

Could be they have a software upgrade for the car ( it can take hours to load ) or you car arrived with a old navigation map disk (like one of the other members car did), and they are getting you the latest version
Whichever it is you will then have the very latest in your car, and not have to take it in later to get it |

do they just update the nav software or do they upgrade the entire iDrive software? Also, does the latest iDrive software have daytime running lights options?

If there is a newer base software verision available for the E90 than you have then the dealer can have their computer install it. That would contain certain new software for certain systems. the dealer cannot choose which systems are upgraded, the computer does it. Remember Idrive is only one of many computers on the car and only controls a few functions |

Steply
the DRL does not have an option for on or off by the customer, they do have the software to turn it on all the time. I think they may add it to the vehicle setup one day. The guy at the dealer said a major update is due in September for the e90, but there will be bits of updates here and there till then. i am almost sure I got a new NAV update, like I said, it's zippy now, no wait for menus like before, I could have knit a sweater waiting for the screen to change. |

that's good to know... I think my dealer is updating my nav today (though it seems they will do nothing about the rattle in my door)...
I've had a quarky problem with my nav -- (aside from it having long lags when trying to input an address) -- when I lose the gps signal (like when I'm driving through lots of trees or through downtown) it continues to work fine (dead reckoning, I guess), but if I lose the signal AND miss a turn (while it's navigating to a specific location), then it usually tries to recalcuate a new route, but on a couple of occasions, it has completely crashed the system... then in a few seconds I see it reboot (with the BMW screen)... then it takes a long while for it to regain the current location.... Hopefully the updated software will fix this little bug... |

OH MY GOD THE RATTLE IN THE DOOR is terrible
I think it's the seat belt tensoner. That is what mine did and they replaced my complete nav system today. parts came from germany express. mine was overheating and reboot. You dealer should pull an error code and replace the unit need be |

I am picking my car up on Thursday of this week, I informed my dealer that i want the NAV software update complete before i pick it up.... He called the service dept. in which they said they did not know of it.... Dealer said if there is an update it will be done when they PDI the car... does this sound right? Thanks!

My NAV is a bit laggy but it isn't as bad as you guys are saying (at least I don't think so)
I also am going to just wait until late September and get all of the updates at once. That way I am not out of my car for ANY time until then |
