The average driver in London pays 15 pounds per day to drive in a Congestion zone. All to keep traffic and emissions down, and encourage public transport.
In the same vein: how long before they no longer make V8/10/12s and also tax any current V8/10/12 owners who decide to drive them? That certainly isn't far out there. New 6-cyl (and the new M5's 8 cycl) engines already have to jump through hybrid hoops to simply exist. I would never call a V8/10/12 a 100% money-back bet. Maybe to a collector; but how many of us sell to specialty collectors? As said previously, maybe a collector would want an M5. But not an M550, and certainly not a civic Camaro. |

To the OP - even if EVs didn’t exist, your M550 would not be worth much in 5-7yrs. Its just a regular V8 BMW. Hell even V10 E60 M5s or V8 F10 M5s are not worth much.
BMW V8s are very expensive to maintain and only the rarest of these models retain value well. I would definitely buy the M550 and enjoy the V8 motor but expect it to have the traditional depreciation curve just like all the other expensive luxury cars. If you want a V8 that will hold value then get M5cs. Personally I don’t think EVs will take over in 5-7yrs. Plenty of new cars being introduced now that are still Pure ICE especially for US market. Europe is different story. |
