Valvetronic actuator
I got code 2DD8 and 2DD6 saying Valvetronic actuator position sensor short to ground or open circuit. Does anyone know how to fix this and what I will need to do and how much it's going to cost. I'm getting bad idle and loud Valvetronic actuator sounds when car is turned off and other problems like that right now.

"Loud valvtronic actuation sounds", can you better describe them? Electrical buzzing or the eccentric shaft smacking the stops? Most likely issues is a bad servomotor. Cost is equivalent to changing the VC +1 hour or so.

I had same issue with 55k miles on the clock on my N55 E92. I got 2DD6 and 2DD8 codes, sometimes, when I unlock the car I was hearing rattle/cracking noise from servomotor. I've replaced servomotor (actuator) and codes are gone.

Where the guys fingers are is where the electrical connector is you can see coming out of the valve cover. It goes straight down from there. Requires pulling injectors and removing the injector wells. Make sure to get new gaskets for the wells, and decouplers for the injectors. |

You will need to remove valve cover, remove four injectors, remove injector wells and the oil feed line. Then you need to turn the eccentric shaft and remove the stop. Then the motor can come out. I am sure there is a video on YouTube that shows the complete procedure.

Here's a good video to study before replacing the motor. He explains what he's doing the whole time. Also I would reference the workshop manual because it tells you the parts you have to refresh when getting to the servo motor. For example the injector bits, like the seal and ring have to be replaced. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1197637 Check this one out as well, specifically post #4. I accidentally broke that piece too. |
