I WOULD have said it will definitely be possible and probably quite easy. But after finding out about the headlight assembly, I cant be so sure. I know for the E46, they used to replace them all the time. Ill have to research that...

Here's a diagram of how the entire instrument panel is constructed and assembled. It looks like the ring surrounds is in the front most part behind the clear plastic. Question now is if you can somehow get under that plastic cover to replace the rings. I'm sure we'll find out in due time.

Chrome Surrounds
If it's like the last 3 series they are not really chrome rings, it's just chrome paint painted onto the edges of the black plastic surrounds. At least that was what was on my '01 330i.
Should be fairly easy to do IF you can get to the face plate. |

E90 Speedo
The little red tick on the edge of the speedo is indeed the cruise control reference mark. I tried it out yesterday on a new 330. It's VERY trick!! You'll love the way it works and looks.
