My NB 1080s are 6mm drop. I was a former extreme heel striker and have retrained myself to be a mid-forefoot striker.

Heel striking led to alot of hip discomfort, mainly trochanteric bursitis. My new no-heelstrike running form means no new aggravation to the hips, although I do have a small amount of discomfort from prior injury/aggravation.

I used to be an extreme heel striker too....until an achilles tendon tear from over use/over training. Spent 6 months learning how to run differently.....that wasn't easy

Ran the first timed 5k of the year Saturday: 33:08. I think last year the same event I ran 32:48 (it's in here somewhere) I stopped and spoke to my dog-friend Ben along the way, that was good for 20-30 seconds. Previously, the last training was Feb 28, so not bad for lack of training.

My quads hurt going down steps . . .

Found it: 32:25 last year.

2.5 miles, good run. I haven't run in 3 weeks due to an increase in pickleball!

I burn more calories playing pickleball than I do when running! One pickleball league ended so will probably replace that with a run. I train approximately every other day.

Daily training wears me down and I feel like my body doesn't recharge properly. My brother the marathoner says he avoids daily training whenever possible.

2.5 miles, good run. Fastest average pace for this run at 9:57/mi. My wife is a faster runner than me and when we run it is faster than my natural pace. I run for fitness and health and am not training for anything. I am just going with the flow!

1 mile done short but solid. Kept it moving with a nice pace. Felt smooth overall, just locked in and got it done. Not chasing any big goals or races right now just running to stay in shape, clear my head, and keep things consistent.

1 mile away from home, left toe caught on an uneven sidewalk crack and I went down hard while moving at a pretty quick pace....my fault for letting my mind wander and not paying attention at 0445....

Went down at an angle so outside of right knee completely skinned, right hand scraped and shoulder took a hit.

Nothing like doing that and having to continue the run cause you're too far away lol

Good training this morning for keeping my mind on the PATH and not anything else

Wife found out and now she's requested when I run that early to wear my chest harness so I can carry my phone for emergencies LOL.

Oddly enough...same run yesterday morning....run up on a dead deer 3 feet away from me and I didn't even see it until I was right up on it.....my led running harness clearly isn't enough for dark mornings...need a flashlight

After 5 separate 3.5 mile runs in these Altra shoes, my body is straight rejecting them. EVERY time, for the first 2 miles, the muscle you use to raise your toes (runs on top of your shin) in my left leg gets so sore/overused that I can't even lift my toes up as I run, causing me to land flat. Ironically, when I go uphill and run on my forefoot a short distance it seems to help, but regardless.....

Might be going back to my NB 880s.

2nd Half-Marathon. 20 mins slower than last year, my training really suffered from all the rain. I was surprised how slow my pace was going from 9:50/mi last year to 11:31/mi.

And I don't know if its because of the record participants this year, but its probably me being in the thick of the crowd and not slightly ahead like last year. The water stations were so crowded and were short on water cups I had to stand still a couple times just waiting for water.

Was the weather (wind, temperature, humidity) within your preferred range? I don't run distance but have a strong preference for cooler, drier and less windy conditions.

My training runs happen at noon/afternoon so running in the morning was fantastic. Last year was a little bit cooler and the sun came out. This year was overcast, started raining right as I finished. And I guess it was more humid but I didn't feel like it was a major factor to my performance. I didn't even stop to think about the humidity until I started reading news articles and people were commenting on it.

2.5 miles, good run. 10:27/mile average which is typical, but not my personal best. I haven't run in a while because we have been swimming and playing alot of pickleball.

Ground contact time was 266ms. I like to focus on that metric because it makes sense to me.

Weather is warming up here finally which means shorts, t-shirt and sometimes no shirt! This morning temp was mid-60s, no wind and some humidity. Lots of sweat at the end of the run!

0430 3.5 mile run….switched back to the NB 880s and had zero shin muscle issues…looks like I’m permanently moving back to the 880s and ditching the Altras.

After the weight lifting I do a very short sprint (.85km) which is my training for my kick at the end of any 5km races. Don't have any races on the horizon but I am happy with the 5:30/km metric for that sprint distance.

2.4 miles, good easy run in Washington DC. Ran the usual low 10-minute pace and had many stops at crosswalks so total average pace was slow.
