E90 Review In Bimmer Magazine !!!
I picked up the June issue of Bimmer magazine because its a 1999-2010 3 series buyers guide, i recently purchased a CPO 2006 325I and was interested in their thoughts regarding the E90. Much to my surprise they pretty much bashed the car, its more or less a throw away item after the warranty expires because of them being very problematic and fiscally unrepairable. Not what i was expecting to read in a magazine deticated to BMW's..........

You have to realize, that mag is written by heritage enthusiasts. People who bore your head off talking about the good old days and how BMW has lost it's way etc. X5 M is sacrilege, OMG!! no dip sticks and Runflat tires!! Ignore their ignorance and enjoy your E90, my 06 330i has 67k miles on it and has been as reliable as any other car I've owned and is easy enough to maintain. It certainly is not a throwaway car and I would be comfortable keeping it outside of warranty.

That said, I still believe BMW offers the most driver-oriented mainstream cars available today. An SUV that can pull more G's around a skidpad than the current M3? Engineering marvel. Run flats? The future. A 6000lb 7 Series that does 0-60 in well under 5 seconds and feels more like a 3 in the twisties? Genius. As awesome as the BMW enthusiast community is, there's a good amount of criticism (which is good, really, since BMW is far from perfection). But sometimes you just need to take a step back and admire zee work of zee German engineers making these cars.

I thought they were encouraging people to buy used 2006 325i(s)? "Buyer's Guide Great Drivers Rapid depreciation of out-of-warranty BMWs means great deals on great driver's cars like those in our Top Ten. By Mike Miller"

Don't get the E90. I had 3 cup holders replaced. I thought about lemon-ing it.

When you read the statement in his article that his 2002 will still be running with points (rather than electronic fuel injection) you know he's just talking trash. It is a stupid statement. |

My early bimmers (1600, 2002, 2002tii) were very reliable and lasted forever (200k+ miles). I expect the same out of my modern bimmers, but the bastards in Munich improve the models so much so fast that I have not been able to resist getting the newest and greatest after 5 years (and less than 100k miles).

You don't understand. HPFP vs Cupholder is a pretty good debate.
Spill coffee on your fine leather seats, thats a dead car right there in the middle of the road.

My 325 has been pretty reliable. Other than the 4 times I had to bring it in for scheduled services, it's only had one sort of major problem. I've gotta say that the scheduled services were annoying though. It was just 2 months after I bought the car that pretty much everything hit and I had to get it serviced. Running on 38.5k miles and it's still running nicely. Hopefully, it lasts me to about 60k. By then, I should have one of the next generation 3 series.

And on the 335 notes, I have read a lot more about them being problematic than any other BMW. Well maybe not including the X5 PS this is NOT a bash against the 335s either, just to make clear.

Also Mike doesn't think the cars are crap, he's just po'd that BMW has elected, like the competition, to utilize more and more plastic parts which break. I think it was the cooling systems of the E36 which set him off. Last edited by F32Fleet; 06-04-2010 at 06:50 AM.. |
