Pirelli Winter 240 SnowSport???
I need to get a set of winter wheels and tires for my new 330i sport. Looking at a package that has Pirelli Winter 240 SnowSport tires. Is the a decent tire? The 3 has the runflats. I believe the Perellis are regular tires. Do I chance running without a spare? (YIKES!).
Thanks ~Rich |

I had Pirelli Sbowsport 210s when I lived up north and thought they were great, however they don't compare to what is out there now.
The Snowsport 240s that you are looking at are rated excellent on TireRack but compared to the other performance snow tires they are rated 5th out of 6. The Pirelli SnowSport 210s are the only tire behind them ranked 6th. The Dunlop Winter Sport M3s are rated number one and are about $50 cheaper a tire as well. 1. Dunlop Winter Sport M3 2. Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 3. Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22 4. Dunlop Winter Sport M2 5. Pirelli Winter 240 SnowSport 6. Pirelli Winter 210 SnowSport http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...sp?type=W&VT=C

Only in 17"
I didn't see the Dunlop on my first search because they don't have an 18" option. What do you think about running 17" winter rubber on the e90 with sport package?

They have 18"s but it didn't come up because they don't have the correct size. You could do 235/40 front and 255/40 rear with those tires. Or you could get a set of 17"s for the winter.

I completely agree with the analysis if P vs D - I also ran Pirelly 210 Snowsports onmy Audi and was very happy with them. But the Dunlops (which my wife runs on her car for over a year nor - the M2s) are a better tire, plus you pay less !! Besides, the 240 vs 210 for Pirelli the difference is only the higher speed rating for the 240s (24okm/h ) - but who ever goes that fast in winter in NA ? |
