I've been trying to find a time to do NJMP - I want to go with the DelVal chapter in August but I have to be in Saratoga the same weekend. Let me take a look at June, assuming I can get at least an attempt to fix this boost issue out of the dealer - I think I'm going to try to take it in next week. Do you know what the registration deadline is for the June 4/5 event at Thunderbolt? Nbd if not I can look it up, just busy at the moment and might forget to do it. Blah!

I can vouch for that. I even commented about how much there was because mine were bad but not THAT bad. Those brakes are wild. No rush to clean them, that kind of dust gives you street cred

Thanks, gives me time to see if i can get this problem resolved. I think my instructor is attending that event, which would be ideal.

All who went to Summit. Glad you had fun! The track is completely addicting!!!
We will have to all get together at a track event on a weekend. NJMP in August is a great event. I'm going to the VAC track event in June, but they want significant track experience. As for the N54 issues: seriously look into a couple of Dinan upgrades for oil cooling. The 335 racecar that Bimmerworks runs has never had any heat issues even running the 12 hour endurance races.

My oil temp never went above 260, even before the boost leak when I was running my best laps.
Of course, it only reached the mid 70s on Saturday. If it were 90 I'm not sure how much of a difference that might make.

My oil temps were 190 range on the track at the end of the session, outside temps in the mid-70s. N55 FTMFW. The cooler air at the front of the run group also helps.

Not so sure, maybe it depends on the type of track. Jefferson has no place for the engine to take a breather. Otto's BMW brought an F30 335i (with 97 miles on it. 97. miles. on. it. ) and threw on a set of what I'm almost certain were R-comps. Now I will say this car was a step transmission, which makes a pretty substantial difference, BUT - Gerry Walsh overheated it in, I believe, his 2nd session. Yep, limp mode.

And wow tracking a car with that few miles ... dare I call it irresponsible. I wouldn't track a car until it's had at least a few thousand on it.

There are 2 straights and one super long sweeping turn (turn 4) that is almost as fast as a straight. I was hitting the top of 3rd on both straights - right around 95/100 and almost 6k (close to 80 probably, although I couldnt look...car was loaded like crazy obviously) in turn 4. Those who stayed for monday (Art!) got to do the main summit track - I heard 135+ on that straight, although it rained all day and never topped 40 degrees. That wouldve scared teh shit out of me to be honest lol. Charles how have you found your v12s to perform in wet? I had understeer that was borderline unacceptable - Jeff's Toyos had probably 50% more grip in the wet and I cant figure out why. Another guy who was there with an E46 330ci was saying the same thing about the hankooks. Dry handling was stupidly good though. So confused! Here's something unrelated - a guy was there with a 458 Italia that he bought from Algar. Recaro seats and a harness bar. He tracked it all last summer. We were drooling over it all weekend (we parked right behind him) and he seems like a very capable driver (green group). My instructor was texting Jeff today and said that on Monday he looped off and backed the 458 into a wall. Took off the rear cover and broke some lights - they figured $50k in damage. Backing in a 458 is at the same time totally cringe-worthy and totally baller. Bling!

Crashing a 458 - even a little bit -
My oil temps really were in the 190*F range on NJMP Thunderbolt, coolant in the 230 range (street). Normally oil temps are in the 230-240 range street. The oil cools better the faster you go with these cars (if you have the factory oil cooler - do you?). Regarding the V12s - no experience with wet, all my track days have been fair weather. On the street I haven't noticed any irregularities in the rain. Understeer is almost always driver error, the solution is simply slow down - reduce your corner entry speed (especially when it's wet). All factory road cars are built to understeer at the limit - ALL of them. I'm at the point where the V12s are becoming a limiting factor on the track, I am yearning for more grip. They're a bit soft for what we are demanding out of them. My overall experience has been overwhelmingly positive howeve; great ride, they're inexpensive, and they communicate their grip on the track extremely well. I always know when they're approaching their limits. Next set of tires for me is likely Michelin PSS. The 335 is just a heavy car, it asks a lot out of its tires (can't even imagine something like an Audi S4 - 4,000+ lb unloaded).
