I had head replaced last week. what i heard from other forum is that lifter replacement is not final fix. head design in 2008 is.
If you just get a oil change for the "fix", they are fooling you. go fight for it. |

how would i request that. Everytime i take it to the dealer it doesn't tick. They need to hear it to do anything about it and they are telling me that i have complained multiple times already. I need a way to reproduce the sound when i take it in next time. I think they dont want to fix it because my warranty will be over in september. Will cpo warranty cover the fix? btw i bring my car to Monrovia. Do any socal guys have a definite fix the problem dealer even if they cant reproduce the sound?

Here is the updated after I bring the car to dealership..
It replaced the Hydr. Valve Pushrod and some other parts, the sound is gone for now. 1. N52 PUSH ROD 2. GASKET RING 3. TORX BOLT 8 4. HYDR. VALVE PUSHROD 5. COLLAR SCREW 6. PROFILE-GASKET 7. SET OF ALU. SCREWS 8. BRAKLEEN Here is the tech information: As PER SIB 110907. Tech removed exhaust vanos and camshaft, replaced valve lifters. Reinstalled camshaft and vanos, timed engine. Replaced valve cover gasket and torqued to spec. Ran engine, no longer ticking. So it appears that the noise is gone for now. But I am concerned about there was some other posts mention about replace cylinder head, so how do I make sure the replacement of hydr valve lifter will fix the issue for sure. Please advice... |

Okay ... I've read for an hour, but need some advice.
My local dealer in Halifax has been fantastic. Kevin in Service is great, and knew exactly what I was talking about when I called. Coles Notes: Developed ticking at 81,000km (50-ish miles). CPO car. Called BMW and told him I've developed the well known N52 engine tick. He knew exactly what I was talking about and booked me in for Friday to have the car diagnosed. What should I request, what should I expect? I want to make sure I get the best fix possible. I appreciate your help! |

After they replace the lifter and next morning, I hear the metallic ticking noise come back.
I drop my car in the dealer again, wait for the response. Not sure if they will replace the cylinder head this time. |

Today, I received the call from dealer, and they CANNOT hear any metallic ticking noise. They try several times to warm the car, test drive the car, the ticking noise is not show up.
They asked me to have a test drive with them tomorrow morning, and I hope the ticking noise will appear again. |

Have a test drive with technician this morning, cannot reproduce the noise again.
So I take it back, and technician suggests that I should video tape next time. |

Hesiation issue
Hi everyone
Just like a lot of people here I had the same ticking noise on my car. I had lifters replaced and then head replace. Now my car hesitates under load at low rpms in low gears and at cruising speeds when floored to gain speed. Took the car back and the change some valve on the intake manifold because it was giving a code. Problem still there and now the service manager is saying is gas, when he gave me a list of prefered gas stations the one I use was there. The car has been in the dealer since last week and they can't find anything wrong. Anyone out there with a similar issue that can trow some light? |

My car has done this a couple of times, then the noise goes away. I have a 330i with 49k miles. Like others pointed out, the noise only happens when the car is cold. After it warms up, the noise goes away. Will keep an eye on this thread.

Is the procedure to replace the lifters and eventually the cylinder head worth it? I'm of the thinking that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Will the ticking noise become a serious engine problem down the road or just an audible nuisance? I'd be afraid that they'd break an otherwise working, factory-sealed engine by opening it up and doing these replacements.
