test drove a mustang GT
Want to share with you guys my impressions of the new stang. My model was fully loaded with the performance package and manual tranny.
Have also driven a 435i msport and m235i in the last 6 months. From the outside the presence of the car is awesome. Looks very mascular with the low profile tires, wide angular tail lights, especially striking in red. Moving on inside, for the most part all is good, nice materials all around, well set up instrument panel and dash. Surprisingly tight given its exterior dimensions. Start/stop functional. Engine sounds sweet. This baby starts going at about 3k and above 4500RPM she flies. And I mean does she fly, besides the power the flight is not what I had hoped for. Car drives big, the view of the long and high hood in combination with the vague steering screams highway blasting versus fun on back roads/curves. Overall, nice pony car, not a European performance coupe. Wish it was smaller on the outside, had same or more interior space, had a 25% smaller, lower and shorter hood, and last, more connected (hydraulic) steering. When that happens, Ford will sell a ton of them. In the end am happy with my e92, a very different car that besides lacking a little power is well balanced and demands to be driven hard. |

Kinda weird how small the inside of a Mustang feels for how large of a car it is, isn't it? That's my biggest turnoff, next to the steering feel.

This size car should easily fit small size adults in the back seat but anyone 12 or older will lack headroom. Cabin is still roomier than camaro's.

Ya they touted it to be lighter than the previous generation and it is actually heavier. I'm really disappointed with the new stang. You figure that they would have learned how to make a proper sports car by now, especially since they are trying to get away from the pony car genre.

I drove one too recently, it's a nice car for what it is.

Most of the reviews I've read have been pretty favorable. I like that Ford has stepped up their game (really, they have for a while). A fast, nimble, well-built Mustang ostensibly means we will see BMW respond accordingly. Competition drives innovation and all that. I'll never own one just because I've never really liked the American Muscle aesthetic (I prefer something more refined/luxurious) but that doesn't mean it isn't a damn nice car. I respect Ford's efforts on this one.

Haven't been in the newer mustangs at all... but I've driven a friend of mines older GT, and I always wonder why the car felt so "big" to drive. It almost felt like driving a vehicle the size of a truck for some reason, which is odd because they are small cars. Not sure if it is the steering of what, but I was not a fan. New ones seem to be good performance for the money.... but it is still a Mustang, and I still will never own one.

Imagine American sports coupe v8 the size of a brz under $35k. There's a huge market for this yet to be created class and would be a huge success. Ford, Chevy, Caddy, anyone listening? BMW? Don't all jump in on this at once.

Chevy has the Camaro which outperforms the mustang for less money. What incentive do they have to create a brz competitor when the Camaro SS is already in that price range? The mustang's price has increased over the years. The mustang with the premium package is now 40k and 46k with the track package. Even the Ford Focus is breaking into the 30s now. Cadillac has announced that they want their cars to be premium and exclusive which means prices will be increasing. The American car companies are slowly going against the " bargain brand" images that they once had.

Anyone driven the Camaro? Ford looks small from the outside but seems like a boat from inside. Camaro looks like a boat from the outside. From the inside...?

The 2015 hood has an odd feel to it. Almost like its 10 feet long. I sell them new so ive spent a good amount of time drooling in one in the show room. The hood though has a large curves to it making the hood seem like its a 70's Cadillac or Lincoln just never ends.

There's really nothing they can do about the hood size though. The physical engine is massive and sits pretty high up
