RB rattle help
Found rattle! Boost solenoids! even though i make 20psi and on target this was the cause I'm so stoked I can hear my intake and not the rattle.!!!!!!
I have had a rattle for 2 years. I bought RB's a year ago and still have the rattle. 1st and last video has the clearest audio of rattle It occurs on light acceleration deceleration. mainly 1st and 2nd is noisy fluttering sound. It does not seem to be the exhaust flap as its the same sound with and without it the flap open or closed on JB4, or with the plug in the boot connected or disconnected and its sounds like it coming from the front. I dont think its the turbos or wastegates cause they are new done less then a 1000km on them. I have had jb4 and now PTF and it still occurs. Car still has full power Today I have re checked the downpipes to make sure there is a gap between the two pipes and checked the turbo - downpipe is flange is tight. Is there something else I can try? Last edited by Brule; 01-07-2015 at 03:52 AM.. Reason: added which video was best |

wastegate rattle that I have on acceleration is mostly a raspy metallic sound from the loose inner disk flap, which is different from the typical loose actuator arm noise that only tend to show itself in deceleration or cold idle.
It sounds like you have something else entirely, try record the sound so we can get a better idea.

mmm. I would like to get a new exhaust but can't afford that yet.
Makes sense cause stock n RB's turbos dont make a difference and the heat shields are put in tight. Exhaust flap doesn't change it. I'll have to get outside the car with someone reving it to take a better listen |

sounds like the clamp that holds your exhaust pipes right after your down pipes is lose. mine sounded exactly like that when I didn't tighten it up enough.
go hit the exhaust with a rubber mallet underneath the car and see where the rattle is coming from. |

Hi Brule,
We have a software based fix that we can include in your map that should help reduce rattle quite significantly on cars that suffer from this issue. Please email us at support@protuningfreaks.com and we can take a look at your PTF map and work with you to have it adjusted accordingly. At times it can also be a punctured vacuum line in the vacuum path that goes to the vac tanks and from there down to the wastegate actuators but this would also typically indicate a boost leak and 30FF codes on the car.

Ill check the exhaust clamp in the morning. Then i will look at vacume lines to make sure they are still in place as they are new and shouldn't leak. Currently getting a tune done by Jake. Just got a map tonight and its the same noise so ill show him the videos. Cheers for the ideas

mee since i had my car more than 5 years i had already rattle also just on deceleration a little bit around 3200 rpm to 2900 rpm...but which are > in time.... 2 years ago, some limp mode (code 3100 etc....) , and rattle more in deceleration....from 3500 rpm to 750 rpm horrible noise !!!!!.., we had replaced both oem turbos and it is the same also already a little rattle but a little bit around 3200 rpm to 2900 rpm , all vaccums line also are news and solenoids turbos also but nothing. also with stock program OEM bmw (not tune) it is the same so it is a mistery ...???? and i decide to do a reason and keep this...???? i never find the root cause ? now car work properly no pb since 2 years , just this little rattle on deceleration...

Just found the source of my car rattling.
Spoke to Rob from RB's He gave me a list of things to try and get rid of the rattle. Only two of the items were not done yet so i bought them two weeks ago installed the first item. Boost solenoids! I was making good boost on target up to 20psi thats why i had never touched them. Anyway my rattle is gone and I heard the intake for the first time! |
