Is this oil LL 01 approved?
Doing some research [yea I've been using search for my info] and just came across this oil and wanted to know if it's LL 01 approved since that's the basic thing everybody talks about when coming to oil

It does not say that it is LL01 approved. This is not to say that it ISN'T within spec for the LL01, but it has not be certified for LL01 so there's really no way to tell. That's the bottom line, sorry.

No, you need the Castrol A3/B4 Euro formula.

My dealer also told me what they tell people for 2007+ turbo cars non M to use 0w-30. But manual does list all 4 so I rather get 0w-40 it may be better but won't really give any noticeable difference. I think the only negative is that your gas milleage will be a bit worse. That's what the dealer guy told me as to why they recommend 30. Prioritize gas milleage voer longevetiyY. But really in the end 30 vs 40 for longevetiy won't really be noticeable IMO. Anyways, Canadian tire here only has 0w-40 LL01 approved oil so. |

That's the oil I've been putting in my car for the last year and a half with zero issues. Our cars recommend Castrol and this one is synthetic so it's good enough for me. I'm also still on stock turbo's and recently reached 180,000 Km's on them.

It's up to you man. I've personally never had an issue and I'm never going to change what I put in as long as I own the car. I also do my oil changes every 5,000km's and I burn roughly less than 1/4 of a quart in between oil changes

Advanced Auto usually always has the EU formula on sale (they claim to be the go to euro part store)... If not, Walmart has it for $26. |

But my question is why not. It's literally the same price as the other oil. Why not get for your car what the manual recommends. It's not like you're paying a BMW tax here. |

I've added it to my sale alert now. I had bought the oil I used now at Walmart USA when I picked up my parts there and it was on sale like the other oil. It should go on sale when the Castrol stuff goes on sale. |

The Eu formula is not just an "ll-01" badge it's literally a better oil. There is 0 reason to buy the regular castrol edge when the EU bottle should be sitting right next to it for the exact same price. The sales and prices are always the same here in the states. can't speak for Canada as oil is different in different markets.

You just reminded me this fact to and I agree. It seems to be overall better oil, as I made a post on the "Bob is the oil guy" forums if I should switch from my Castrol A3/B4 0W-40 to a Motul or Liquiy moly 5W-40 and everyone was saying to stick with the Castrol that it was a pretty good oil because of that formula you're talking about. |

But for my E46 I used exact same oil and had gotten it from Canadian Tire when the Castrol stuff was on sale. But I noticed it hasn't been for a while now... any of it even non LL01. I made a post on Red Flag Deals to see if anyone know if it still goes on sale looks like it does, last time was black friday. They also reminded me actually that Costco had the Castrol stuff 24/7 priced at the sale price of Canadian Tire but I don't they they have 0w-40 ll01. And yeah I get what you feel, if it works for you I mean no reason to change, I just personally would prefer to follow owner manual guide for oil. |

At the end of the day, who cares?
An oil that lands on the "approval" list doesn't automatically make it any better than one that hasn't "earned" the seal. If you want to know whether an oil is "good enough" to run in your setup, run it, dump it, have it tested at a lab. |
