Any Track (circuit) guys with MTECH/M3 Steering wheel?
I've read many reviews such as C&D and articles mentioned that the M3 Steering wheel is too thick for HPDE/Circuit?
What do you guys think of the M3 or MTech steering wheel for track compared to the OEM ZSP one? I've had the new M3 for a week to drive and I totally loved the feeling of the thicker M3 steering wheel compared to my 335i. Im just not sure would it be a good choice to get the thicker steering wheel for track (circuit) ? Thanks for your input

Here, when doing track/hpde instructors do not want you to grip the wheel will all fingers. They teach you to only use the two thumbs 9/3. So no chance of wheel slipping from your hands and you always return to center, without having to look for it.
I guess it wouldn't hurt to have the thicker wheel if you are doing this. Having said that, the thicker wheel is a looker and feels softer to the touch. These are the only reasons you would want to have one, look and feel.

Yeah personally I like the 335i sport wheel - if only it were alcantara to prevent it from getting slick when your hands get sweaty.
I drive with my fingertips a lot of times...to allow me to feel the tire slippage better. My take is that a super thick wheel will make you grab it...which prevents you from driving with all of your senses. |

Best advice on 'light touch on the controls' i ever received was at a motorcycle track day... he said most users (car and bike' grip the handle bar/steering way way too tight and lose fine motor control when doing so.. best way is to use the minimum pressure that will allow you to hold the control w/o hand slip |

I understand what you are saying and the reason for it, what I am describing is really what instructors are teaching here.

I have the M-tech steering wheel custom covered in Alcantara. It's VERY comfortable and super grippy. I have large hands and definitely needed the larger wheel. No slipping at all and great for the track or on the street. I love it!
Here's a couple of pics.

Too much, but I wanted something different. I had it recovered by Caravaggio Corvettes in Canada. He doesn't usually do BMW stuff, so it was a one-off for him. It was $700 and he matched the shift boot and e-brake boot.

335i wheel is just fine but I love the M3 steering wheels size and feel. Most articles I've read, the reviewsl have been a positive based on grip, size and feel. Not sure about the MTECH but it looks like a very close match.

I drove an E92 yesterday with the BMW Performance Steering Wheel and it feels VERY good in the hands, I love the alcantara.
