Rear light layout on facelift
Saw a new facelift 3 series today in the metal for the first time
Have to say the rear lights lay out / shape is really ugly |

They look much better than pre-LCI IMO. The pre-lci's look like they tapes a sharpie onto a cat's paw and let it do random streaks.

I kind of like it. Although I will say that I think the 08 Blacklines look great and are a great alternative to the 09 new tail lights. The OEM 08 tail lights I think are pretty bland. |

ITS SAD BUT TRUE!!!
Pre or facelifted/LCI the 3 rear light layout on the 3's are terrible.....it's like they closed their eyes and draw the design.....Only on the Sedan.... The back of the 1 series and 3 series sedans rear just went wrong!! But i think the E90 sedan Pre-facelift have the most mean front among all bmws!! |

I had an '09 E90 loaner so I got a good look at them. To me, they are an improvement over the previous version. But I still like my Blacklines better (especially with M-kit).

Who's the meanest in all the (BMW) land?
Quote:
1. While not a big fan of the pre-LCI 'mustache' in comparison to the E92/3 kidneys, IMHO the LCI E90/1 removes a key point of difference in comparison to not only the E92/3, but other BMW models. I'm in agreement that even though it may be ugly, as a package the pre-LCI E90/1 is much more masculine and aggressive. 2. In isolation, the LCI tails look great. On the road, the overwhelming 'red' effect reminds me of an Infiniti. An improvement over the pre-LCI, but I'll take pre-LCI blacklines any day of the week. 3. I wouldn't trade Montego/Black/Alum, however the availability of Space Grey in tandem with Oyster or Saddle is a nice addition and would have made it close decision. 4. A big win for the LCI headlights, LED signals and iDrive. 5. A big loss for the upwards 2K increase in price for a similarly equipped 08 (based on the 328xi).

I think they're fine during the day, though I still prefer pre-LCI blacklines. But I hate them when lit up at night, way too much red and I don't care for the thicker light rods that overlap with the brakelights themselves. A few weeks ago I was approaching the rear of a Lexus LS460 and being dark, thought it was the facelifted E90 that I passed earlier that evening because of the light rod design.

Life-Cycle Impulse. It's BMW's fancy way of saying facelift.

Not really. The white section follows the cut line of the trunk lid, and since it's not red like the rest of the tail, it forms the BMW "L", whatever that's supposed to signify. As much as I love the cars, never could figure out the rationale for their tailight designs; always look disjointed and unfinished, like some one forgot a piece. Current lci looks like 2 lines that don't quite match up; kinda like the trim on a '78 Lincoln.
